Second Trial

[Once everyone makes it the portrait gallery again, they will hear Randall's voice echo through the room.]

I'm not sure what everyone expected. There are a lot of children here and given the situation it was only a matter of time they started dying.

The floor descends once again as Randall begins his speech.]

Our tour begins here in this gallery where you gaze upon the sweet innocence of youth. Ah, but things are not always as they seem. Can it be this room is actually stretching? And notice this: this chamber has no windows and no doors, which offers you this chilling challenge… to find a way out.

[The floor stops again and doors open to the trial room.

At least the trial room doesn't look terribly different, although there are strange burn marks in the summoning circle now. And now, along with Mim, now Woody and Noby's podium has a lit candle and a voodoo doll resembling them (which is perhaps a little redundant in Woody's case).

Randall is already standing within the summoning circle, holding his stick with Facilier's head on it.]

[For the first time all trial, Mabel hops down from Stan's podium. She's a little upset at him doing her vote for her, so she doesn't warn him, just heads right over to Marco, who looks like he's been spacing out since Randall mentioned Star.

She's a bit shorter than him so she can't put a hand on his shoulder, so she'll just grab a fistful of the back of his hoodie instead.]

This guy's just a big, mean, butt. He's probably just making all that stupid stuff up.

When I get home, the first thing I'm gonna do is go find a time machine somewhere, and stop this from ever happening. And then me and my dinosaur can take you home to your mom, okay?

[That snaps Marco out of it a little bit.

He stares at beast in silence for a minute, looking from him to Randall as it sinks inside of him the realization that Star's dead.


Star was here before, and she's died.]

[Marco's anger is directed towards Randall, of course. Despite the fact that the beast was just called the fuck out.]

[ She has to prick her finger, like one of those pretty little fairy tales. But this isn't a fairy tale, is it? This is dangerous, and real. All the fantastic things that've happened to her, all the strange tales that in hindsight sound like a fever dream- none of it amounts to anything right now.

All the good she's tried to do, everything she's run from and simultaneously clung to, it can't let her save this one poor little girl who just wants to see her mom.

[Marco feels the tug on the back of his hoodie, and he looks down at Mabel -- one of the youngest ones here -- trying to comfort him.

A small, strained looking smile is on his face now and he reaches up to rub the side of his face, giving off a dry laugh.]

Y-yeah, you're right. He's just trying to get our goats.

[she'll let him go once she's suitably convinced he's gonna smarten up and not be a hero, and then as a reward he gets a shoulder ride out later. doesn't have to hang out with her dolls or anything.]

[She's got you. Leia leaves Jane's side only to go over to Kim's podium, and use the rest of the blood from her own finger to write Jane's name there, as well.]
