How to Win an Election Without Even Running

[ So. Many things have been pretty awful lately. But Randy gave Basil a very unique opportunity, and. Well. Freddie had always been as much for showmanship as their first host--down to the execution: she went out on her terms, with very impressive results. Basil's not about to pass up the closest thing to a victory they've had so far.

He can't do much on his own, but he finds a few others willing to help ok so they did the majority of the actual work. Point is, there's something to celebrate, and they're going to do just that.

Going through Freddie's room (of course he's looting it, she told him to) and setting things up both take time, but eventually the others will find handwritten invitations slipped under their doors.

...That may be the most tasteful decoration in the room, as Basil told VP Mabel to raid both the sewing and art rooms for "anything in colors that would remind one of our president". There's a lot of extremely vivid violet everywhere.

There's food, naturally--provided by Lekmet--and. Well, technically no alcohol served, but as the invitations stated, there's nothing preventing you from bringing your own. ]

Well, that's true. I figured I'd give you the option.

[She sits down next to him, ignoring how sweaty he is, because, well, She Has A Type. Curious, eyes a little worried, she glances up at him.]

Of course, Stan. What is it?

[ He scowls at her. ]

That election was a sham!

[ Gaston starts out by nodding along to the beat, then humming. By the time Louis pauses, he's tapping his foot. ]

Yes, yes! [ He waves a hand irritably. ] Don't stop now, this is the good part!

[Out of courtesy, because he is Sweaty and Gross, he doesn't put his arm around her. He leans forward and rests his elbows on his knees, looking at the ground.]

Can you look after Mabel for me for a while? Think it's probably best if I sleep in my own room for a few nights.

[You saw how Mad she was.]

[This is why she loves you, Louis. You're the best kind of over-the-top.]

[Aaaand she's off without another word!]

Well nobody voted for you, so it's not like you'd get to be Vice President anyway! This is totally fair!

[ Wait a second. ]

Oh. Ooookay!

[He hastily begins to play again--this time, correcting any mistakes he made during the chorus. He begins to branch out into the actual song once he starts to remember the melody.

He manages to play through the whole song with only a few mistakes. He dramatically pauses before the last note and plays the finale as loud as he possibly can.

Despite the fact that it's about Gaston, of all people, it's a pretty nice song!]

Uh, um, sorry, but--who exactly wrote this song for you?

Wait for me!

[He scrambles after Mabel, barely able to keep up. His legs are stubby, please be patient.

He manages to reach the music room a few minutes after her, panting and wheezing. He clutches his chest and leans against the door frame. No complaining from him, though. He wants Mabel to have fun without worrying about him.]

You--wheeze--You got what you need?

[ Now he's in a good mood. He actually starts singing along near the end, up to and including the big finale. Everything is great and normal and just like it should be, with nobody punching him and people playing songs about how amazing he is. Until Louis asks that question.

Instantly, Gaston's happy expression disappears, and he snorts in disgust, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at nothing. ]

...It doesn't matter.

wax museum

[Well, that was a nice party! Even though his friends are all dying. But it's fine. Jazz brings everyone together, and he's sure that Freddie would have enjoyed it, if she were still alive. He passes by the wax museum on his way back to his room and glances in--]

What the hell?!

[So that's where Lekmet was this whole time. He rushes in, seeing Lekmet summon a fireball and fire it at the pharmacist statue.]

What are you doin', throwin' around fire like nobody's business! You could get hurt!

Neither was Freddie, but she was president first!

[... oh hey a word he knows that she doesn't. She kinda gets the meaning though??]

He didn't give it to me though so that's a moot point!

Well, maybe she shouldn't have been president either!

[ Mabel, you're not convincing him of anything here. ]

It's still cheating.

[Hmmm. He probably shouldn't push his luck with someone like Gaston, but his reaction leaves him curious. After a moment of consideration, he takes a careful step backwards, out of grabbing distance.]

Oh? I'd, uh, figured you'd appreciate 'nd remember someone who wrote a song 'bout your greatness 'nd stuff.

[He wants to add, 'Did they realize how much of a moron you were?' but he definitely knows if he says that, Gaston would probably threaten him or even punch him. He's not that dumb.]

She'd be better than you by a longshot! 'Least she cared about some of the people here!

[She knows by now she can't convince him of anything. She just likes annoying him.]

...Ice cream does sound pretty good.

[She's already started dismantling a few of the cymbal stands and grabbed a few pairs of drumsticks, bundling it all up in her arms as best she can.]

What I can carry, yeah!

I guess we'll never know now, will we?

[ Hey remember when everyone though Gaston was improving and redeemable because uh. ]

[SHE DIDN'T BELIEVE THAT FOR A MINUTE]

We will, cause we're gunna help all our friends escape, and she's gunna help on their end! And we can rub it in your big dumb face that people like her better than you!!

[ Smart move, Louis. Gaston's scowl deepens. ]

I didn't say I didn't remember!

But apparently he's done with me. Apparently he has new friends, and he doesn't need me anymore.

[ Can you hear the sarcasm. ]

So I'm done with him, too.

[ Despite the picture still crumpled up in his pocket. He's just going to keep pretending that doesn't exist. ]

Weren't you listening? That murder wasn't a mistake. She wanted to kill someone!

Y'need a drum, right?

[He stumbles into the room and sizes up a few of the instruments. Bass drum? No way, how would they carry it down the stairs? Timpani? Too big, and also not really used in jazz. He then spots a snare drum and picks it up by the stand, grinning at Mabel.]

This good enough? You ready to go?

After all of that this week, and the past month...

[He turns to Louis with a dramatic, ominous look] I fear Nothing.

I'm mostly kidding! I have to be prepared, though. My healing powers are nothing but curses now.

you tried to convince us a bunch of times that Beast did bad stuff when it was really other people, and you celebrated when he died! You're way worse than she is!

I can't believe it took me this long to make them! They taste a lot better than my normal brownies, too.
