This is fine. It's fine. We're fine.

[Well that was.

Something.

Underneath everyone’s door they’ll find a slip of paper, in shaky calligraphy, that reads:

INVITATION

Meet in the Dining Room.

Do not bring alcohol of any sort.

Upon arrival into the Dining Room it’s clear that this is very much...not a party.

The center of the room is cleared of all tables, and instead has all the chairs arranged in a circle, facing inwards. On the tables pushed to the side are jugs of water, cups, plates of saltines, and several hastily-made pamplets that read on the front ”How to cope with Child homicide” that contains an advisory list:

  1. Try not to think about it.
  2. Do not get hysterical.
  3. Crying is permitted, but keep it within a reasonable volume. (For the consideration of fellow mourners)
  4. Maintain civility
  5. Do not plunder the belongings of the deceased.
  6. No drinking or gambling your sorrows away. Set an example.

Standing in front of one of the chairs already is Mr.Arrow. He clears his throat as people start to slowly come in.]

I gathered you all here because I believed it would be conductive to group morale if we all worked through our feelings regarding recent events. Talk about your feelings with one another, but not with me.

[He steps back a little, out of the circle of chairs, in what seems to be an invitation for people to sit down and discuss with one another.]

...No, I don't mind, I guess. I mean, I'd probably want to know, too.

[If it was one of his friends, he means. It takes him a while to actually speak, though, and it's with a heavy sigh when he does.]

It was-- stupid.

This kid in our round, Dipper, he... just slipped and fell through the pool cover. And then this other guy, Merlin, he tried to save Dipper, but Goofy saw them and he didn't know what was going on and he thought that Merlin had-- had--

[He stops abruptly because he runs out of breath after rambling like that. He didn't even really manage to get the whole story across, but once he's stopped for breath it's suddenly incredibly difficult to get any words out anymore. It feels like he can't get enough air.]

And so he... he killed Merlin, and then... then we...

[He doesn't need to explain trials to her, at least. He turns away from the camera to briefly scrub furiously at his face (his eyes are just irritated he's fine) and finds he doesn't really have the voice for any more of that.]

...You don't need to finish that thought. I get it.

[Her voice is soft, too. She tries to wrap her head around the fact that Goofy, of all people, had killed someone. From the way Donald described it, it sounded like he did it to protect somebody, but... she couldn't be sure.

The hand holding the mirror starts to grow more shaky the more she thinks about it. However, the thing that catches her attention is the way Donald turns his head to wipe at his eyes, and she has to hold herself back from crying, too.]

He... He got executed... [She inhales.] ...And you had to watch it, oh, Donald... I'm so sorry...
theduck: (i dunno...)

[personal profile] theduck 2018-01-29 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
...Yeah. Sorry, I--

[That's... really the first time he's actually. Talked to anybody about it. There was Oswald and Marnie, sort of, but that was way back when it actually happened and since then he'd had too much time to think about it, to play everything over in his mind. He misses Goofy more than he though he would, back when he only had three weeks to get to know him.]

I just hate it. Everybody keeps getting killed because they made a stupid mistake because they were scared. It's wrong to have to vote for them!

[The anger that'd started to build up dissipates quickly, though. He's sure she doesn't need to hear anymore about situations like that, after the trial they just went through.]

...But, y'know, you can still talk to Goofy, if you want. [He can't talk to him directly and he's slightly bitter about that but he just needs someone to call him, he has to hear him say that he's okay somehow, wherever he is.] With that mirror of yours. I'm sure he could explain the whole mess better than I could.

It’s...

[She pauses, trying to find the right words to say.]

The worst. We’ve only had two, but watching both of them unfold was the worst and if I have to be honest, I’m not sure if I can handle seeing another one. I just want to go home— I... I miss Mickey.

[She feels her heart pounding in her chest and a tightness in her throat as she speaks. Minnie glances away for a few seconds, taking a little while to register that she couldn’t talk to Goofy, as she’s trying to compose herself and stop herself from crying in front of a face so familiar, but yet, is a stranger at the same time.]

Yeah... I’ll— I’ll probably try and get in contact with him when we’re done here. Thank you. [She smiles.] If there’s anything you want me to tell him for you, just let me know and I’ll be happy to pass on a message for you!

We had to go through... [he pauses to try and count. it's hard, with so many having died every week. he can hardly keep track of everyone they lost at this point.] ...five, I think? But we're gonna find a way to get you guys out real soon. I promise. Mickey's gonna help us-- just... as soon as we find him.

[He decides leaving that matter vague is probably best. They're already in danger just by trying to contact Mickey, apparently, but at least she can know he might be coming.]

Tell Goofy... y'know, it doesn't matter. He can hear me right now anyways, since I guess they're listening down there. Just make sure to ask him if he's doing alright.

Mickey's coming to help, too...?

[Well, doesn't that give her the motivation to fight to survive till the end! She wants nothing more than to see her boyfriend again, and she'll do everything she can to make sure that happens.]

Oh, please find him soon! I'm sure he'll know what to do. He usually always does.

[Minnie pauses, listening to Donald's words silently before she nods.]

Yeah. No problem. When I can get a hold of him, I'll be sure to tell him right away.

...You-- You stay safe. Okay? I wouldn't want to find out that anything's bad happened to you while I'm in here.

Hopefully! I mean, Mickey's brother is here with us, and if anyone has a chance of getting in touch with Mickey, it's Oswald. And that guy who was talking through the mirror earlier, Rod, he was real close to Walt at, uh, at one point. I think they know what they're doing.

[Well, he trusts Oswald more than Rod but... still.]

But we're pretty safe where we are. [Unless the mansion collapses entirely on them which wouldn't even surprise him at this point, given their luck.] If I were you, I'd be more worried about looking out for yourself!

Oh, good...

[She puts her hand over her chest and lets out a breath she didn't even realize she was holding in. Hearing that someone so familiar to her was there as well brought a relief she so desperately needed.]

I'm glad Oswald's there. I haven't gotten the chance to meet him much, but I know about him. I'm happy to hear that you're safe where you are.

But don't you worry too much about me. I'm a strong gal, I can take care of myself! I'm not gonna let anybody take me down!
theduck: (hold on)

You can call Oswald at some point too, I guess, if you want. He might be able to tell you more about Mickey than I can.

[Donald doesn't even know who Mickey is, actually, he's just heard a lot about him.]

Then keep an eye on everybody else, will you? We... only had a couple kids in our round, but they... [got picked off pretty fast. he doesn't want any of the ones left in this round to get hurt, too.]

[personal profile] lovelylilmouse 2018-01-30 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's...a good idea. I can try that the next time I'm able to.

[She giggles to herself, but her smile's quick to fade as he mentions the children who are stuck in this place with her-- and she nods.]

Don't worry. I'll keep a close eye on them. [It doesn't take long for her to eventually get the idea that the kids in Donald's round are...probably no longer with them.]

Hey, I know you said that you come from a place where we haven't met before, but thanks for still talking with me. It's a relief to see a familiar face after so long...

Yeah, same! I mean, thanks for talking to me, too, and all.

[He knows he should be thankful that none of his family or friends are involved in this, but it's still difficult to watch everyone talk with their loved ones again.]

And, uh... good luck.

[It feels somehow wrong to wish somebody luck in a death match, but he isn't sure what else to say in a situation such as this.]
