ENDGAME GROUP 2: The Trial (Log 2)

[After Remy and Thalia stumble upon Bill’s makeshift trial room, it doesn’t take very long for the others to appear within the trial room. There are podiums set up as per usual, but there’s...really nothing keeping you to using them. The whole place smells terribly of ketchup, and is completely gold, each wal covered in massive tapestries.

There’s also a closed door at the back of the room. Not the way you came in. Guess someone needs to get in and out.]

WELCOME, TO YOUR TRIAL, KIDDOS! I’M NOT SUPER ENTHUSED ‘BOUT THE WHOLE “BURNING DOWN MY GIFT SHOP” THING, BUT I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PARK ANYWAY! GOTTA HAVE SOME FUN BEFORE YOU DIE!

I'm not saying that the guy who got us into this mess is right. I'm just saying...dying wish or no, that's a lot of faith to put into a guy who's already done so much wrong.

[ Similarly, she isn't...quite looking at him. ]

Sometimes it pays off...but more often than not, it'll leave a trail of bodies, even if it does.

[ She withdraws the letters from her pocket, hands them to him. ]

We found these today. Reyna and I. They were in a...burned out old office with a creepy voodoo head, but...they were protected in a safe. I figured you'd want them back.

[He gingerly takes the letters and reads them over. He's too tired to get flustered over Thalia reading it's contents.]

... Did Walt really keep these?

[ She appears surprised. ]

That was his office? Huh... Weird decorating choices. If it was, then yes, looks like he did.

I don't know why they'd be completely intact if Walt had just thrown it away otherwise...

The guy you saw wasn't just a facade. But...

Honestly...he sounds a lot like my parents. He wasn't a good person. Not by a long shot. But he's still...someone who was important to you. It's allowed to be complicated. He's a jerk who everyone who's...got beef with him is allowed to have beef with.

[ She glances at Randy with a grimace. ]

But it doesn't mean becoming a god and screwing with a bunch of innocent people is right either.

[Exhales. He doesn't seem to be eager to talk about his complicated relationship with Walt, but...]

I wouldn't dream of becoming like Randy. I have many failures, but I like to think that I would never stoop that low.

Oh. what. Like you didn’t run a ritual yourself.

Do I have to remind you that my friends were vanishing from purgatory and that you promised me that they could all come back if I agreed to this?

...Do you know why Walt destroyed EPCOT, Rod?

You know what happened to most of your friends at EPCOT? The ghosts at Beau’s Mansion?

[Rod drops to his knees, shaking in disbelief.]

He couldn't have. I... I thought Walt cared about me. About us. He wouldn't have sacrificed all of our souls to them if he had a say in the matter.

You know, it’s so easy for you to accept that he murdered you and me but the possibility of him sacrificing your friends as demon food is foreign.

I wasn't thinking you would. Annoyingly, this...sounds like a big family squabble I went through a year or so back. [ She sighs. ] And Mr. Devil over there is spouting some familiar nonsense someone I...used to be close with bought into.

[very quietly:]

. . . He's not a bad person. Sometimes, you just mess with things bigger than yourself and it. [Amanda pauses, like she's having trouble trying to say this.] It messes up other people's lives. Their entire lives just become horribly, intrinsically intertwined with something bigger than them and -
