WEEK 5

[Wander and Sylvia are dead, the Ghost Host was snuffed out like a light, and Tarzan is nowhere to be seen. It seems like in an instant everything is changed, not just the circumstances, but the mansion itself. It feels like it's gotten significantly colder in the mansion, and you might also start seeing bugs out of the corner of you eyes, darting away into darkness the moment you try to focus on them.

And, starting this week, any and all ghosts are eerily absent but at the same time, no matter where you go, you feel like you're being watched by something. To make matters worse, the attic doors have been nailed open.

But there are some bright spots in this week. When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find that you have a brand new tuxedo hanging up on your bedroom door, in your exact size. Later, if you're curious enough to try going from the second floor to the attic, you'll find that there's a whole new floor to explore, but this time it's just comprised of two rooms: a smallish but serviceable laundry room and an expansive casino with an attached bar.

Don't tell Jiminy about this he will have a heart attack.

Feel free to explore, but maybe you want to keep away from the Stretching Room for awhile. Somebody cut the noose on the hanging corpse.

17 guests remain.]

Seventeen. I go to university, you know.

[She doesn't actually go to university, but she's not about to explain the whole German higher educational system right now. That way lies frustration.]

Oh. Well, that's not that far off.

[Leave him alone, he's pushing seventy. When you're his age, five years is not that much of a difference.]

At any rate, this is not disgusting, it's a Tequila Sunrise. Tequila, orange juice, grenadine. Refreshing and boozy.

Yes, but why do that when you could mix beer with lemonade? [She means lemon-lima soda.] You can also do cola, but it's a different kind of beer they don't have here.

[Is this an American thing. This seems like an American thing.]

Well, there's always shandy—I think that's similar to what you mean. But as a general rule, Americans aren't too big on beer cocktails. We mostly just drink it straight.

[personal profile] amadeusrockette 2017-07-14 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
That seems like a terrible idea, no wonder you don't let anybody but adults drink in America. [Some beer is as alcoholic as wine in Germany, so Y I K E S. She's beginning to see the problem.] You have to let people get used to it first, you can't just throw them off the deep end.
sixfingeredstan: (¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

[personal profile] sixfingeredstan 2017-07-14 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
We do that because teenagers don't have fully developed brains, and alcohol is incredibly damaging to adolescent brain cells.

[He shrugs.]

Plus, we don't trust them to make responsible decisions.
amadeusrockette: (to let you know)

[personal profile] amadeusrockette 2017-07-14 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's not like you should give babies alcohol like the French. [Probaly not all of them do that but.] If you let them have it before they go to university, though, then they won't kill themselves drinking it. Teach them how to make better choices, then they make better choices.

[Ford cocks an eyebrow at her.]

American teenagers don't do well with 'making better choices.' They don't learn by example. They learn by doing the opposite of what they're told.
amadeusrockette: (i'm not a philosopher)

[personal profile] amadeusrockette 2017-07-18 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's their fault exactly. [She frowns, trying to think how to say this without sounding like an asshole.] American media really glorifies getting so drunk you don't remember the next day. If they're hearing "drink lots of alcohol" from the musicians and movie stars they look up to and "drinking is bad for you" from their parents, who do you think they'd want to listen to?

[Her father was extremely careful about what media she was allowed to consume for this exact reason, or so he said. She was the only teenage girl whose music collection consisted solely of dead classical musicians.]

Oh, I completely agree. It's just ingrained in the culture.

[Ford shrugs.]

You're very level-headed for a teenager.
amadeusrockette: (i just entered this brand new world)

[personal profile] amadeusrockette 2017-07-19 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Only sometimes. Other times I throw away my future for a boy, just like any other teenage girl.

[It's hard to tell if she means that sincerely, or as a joke. It's in her profile, so obviously it happened, but it's said with the tone of a joke.]

It was very Romeo and Juliet.

[Ford lifts his eyebrows, looking down at her curiously.]

Stranger things have been known to happen. He isn't...dead, is he?
amadeusrockette: (i'm the harmony)

[personal profile] amadeusrockette 2017-07-20 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He wasn't when I last saw him but. [She shrugs.] He was one of the people in the photo I received, when . . . when Ghostave told us all our family and friends had been kidnapped. So now, who knows?

[She finally opened the envelope after the shitshow of the last trial, because if she was going to die she wanted to know who she might be seeing in the afterlife.]

Ah. Well, I know the uncertainty is difficult...but I also do like to think that if that were the case, Oogie Boogie would have taken the opportunity to rub it in all our faces by now.
