WEEK 5

[Wander and Sylvia are dead, the Ghost Host was snuffed out like a light, and Tarzan is nowhere to be seen. It seems like in an instant everything is changed, not just the circumstances, but the mansion itself. It feels like it's gotten significantly colder in the mansion, and you might also start seeing bugs out of the corner of you eyes, darting away into darkness the moment you try to focus on them.

And, starting this week, any and all ghosts are eerily absent but at the same time, no matter where you go, you feel like you're being watched by something. To make matters worse, the attic doors have been nailed open.

But there are some bright spots in this week. When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find that you have a brand new tuxedo hanging up on your bedroom door, in your exact size. Later, if you're curious enough to try going from the second floor to the attic, you'll find that there's a whole new floor to explore, but this time it's just comprised of two rooms: a smallish but serviceable laundry room and an expansive casino with an attached bar.

Don't tell Jiminy about this he will have a heart attack.

Feel free to explore, but maybe you want to keep away from the Stretching Room for awhile. Somebody cut the noose on the hanging corpse.

17 guests remain.]

I'd like that.

[He wasn't sure if he was imagining the way that Maui's skin moved beneath him as the miniature nyoomed over to the unoccupied side of his chest, but it was still as amazing to watch him move now as it was the first time. He smiled and waved at the little guy.]

Surely there's nothing in the rules about moving some furniture, right? [He asked, with a curl of mischief.]

[Just because he didn't share his counterpart's romantic inclinations, didn't mean Mini was in the business of being rude. He lifted his own inky fingers and waved back, grinning and even mustering up a wink. It was all part of the show, right?]

Probably not. Can't save I've read them. [Too boring. Not to mention too confusing.]

[Cute... Thanks Mini.]

Me either, for...a couple reasons.

You, too? [Maui quirked a brow. He hadn't had it in himself to be embarassed over his lack of reading comprehension, but it was still nice to know he wasn't alone.]

[It was never something that he was ashamed of, back home. Not when almost everyone in town was also illiterate, or barely not so. But almost everyone here was...not only literate, but educated. Even a lot of the girls could write.

He was in the minority. But at least he wasn't alone.]

Yeah, I guess I just never really caught on to it.

Let me guess, you were too busy earning all of these- [He almost flirtatiously traces the thick black lines that outline the stories on Maui's skin.] -to learn?

[Maui couldn't help himself, he began to laugh. Lefou wasn't that far off. If reading had been a skill in his time, Maui would have probably skipped his lessons. What did being able to read matter when he could punch things, right?]

Not quite, but uh -- We communicated outloud. Anything that needed to be remembered was either passed through stories spoken out loud, or pictures like mine.

[He's jostled quite thoroughly when Maui starts laughing, and even though he has to give up his comfortable position to reach out and try to anchor himself by grabbing Maui's opposite side and hooking his leg over Maui's knee, the fact that he's koala-clinging just to stay on the bed is ridiculous enough that he laughs too.]

That's... Not too far different from the way it is back in my village. There's the occasional road sign, but unless you need to do business in a bigger town or city nobody has to know how to read or write.

The people in the big cities - Paris, Versailles, those places - they write everything down. But in a quiet village like Villeneuve? The only person who has to read is Pere Robert.
