[You've all been here for well over a month and it's getting harder and harder to keep spirits up. There has been small hope thanks to a mysterious person talking to you through your dreams. A small hope that maybe you'll be able to escape and get your friends back, but you'll have to escape first.

There are no new floors to explore, the outside area remains the same as it's always been. Might as well get comfy here.

[ Well... she doesn't have any tools or anything, but she does have something else. Only half of a thing, really; the other is for a certain other couple. But Naminé figures there's no time like the present, and with all the things that could happen, it's likely now or never. So, she seeks out Ford and finds him the study.

There's something behind her back. ]

Oh--I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you.

[Ford glances up from his spot on the floor, his back leaned against the sofa, where he's currently busy unscrewing the case of a hand mixer to see what kind of parts he can scavenge from it. He immediately lights up with a grin at the sight of Naminé, and sets down the kitchen implement off to the side.]

Never be sorry. You're welcome to bug me any time you like. What's up, kiddo?

[chainbroke]

[ Aw, heck. She gives him a smile as she moves a little closer. He's really working hard, isn't he? There must be something she can do, too.

But it's not the time for that. She shuffles in place slightly, giving him a sheepish smile. ]

Well... I have something. For you, and Fiddleford. If-- you want it, that is.

[sixfingeredstan]

[Ford raises both his eyebrows up at her, and suddenly he's caught wondering exactly how much she knows. Perhaps it's just...a friendship thing? Friendship bracelets? That's something Mabel would do, certainly. He gives her a nervous little grin.]

Ah—of course, whatever it is, I'm sure we'll want it. What have you got, then?

[chainbroke]

Well... mm, I don't think I told you about the legend behind it. I should tell you, before I offer it.

On Sora's island, there's a tree. It's a paopu fruit tree, and as far as I know, it's the only place that grows them in all of the worlds. Those who know of it know its legend. That if two people share it, their destinies become intertwined, and they stay a part of each other's lives, no matter what happens.

The paopu fruit is seen as a symbol of romantic love. Um, Wander received one out of the machine a while back, and he let me have it.

[Ford listens to her explain the legend with a growing tightness in his chest. Because it seems that they haven't been as subtle as they'd thought after all. But above all, he's touched; he can't believe that Naminé would be so generous as to give him such a sentimental gift, which she's clearly put some thought into.

But first, he needs to get over his flabbergastment. He blinks up at her.]

But—how did you know?

[chainbroke]

It was just sort of a... feeling. I wasn't completely sure, which is why I explained it to you before I just gave it to you.

[ Apparently, her instinct was right! Who knew. ]

[sixfingeredstan]

[Ford lets out a bark of a laugh, tossing his head back, his shoulders shaking.]

You've got very good instincts, dear. You should listen to them more often. Well, I guess that's my big secret out in the open.

[And isn't that sort of a relief, that one more person knows and everything's just fine?]

[chainbroke]

[ She relaxes and holds out the half, her smile bright. ]

Thank you. I figured... I won't be sharing it with anyone, so I should give it to the people I care about.

You and Fiddleford... You're very good for each other, I think.

[sixfingeredstan]

[Oh. Oh, no. That breaks Ford's heart a little bit. He gives her a sad little smile, unable to ignore the ache in his chest.]

I'm very glad you think so. I happen to agree. And...I'm sure he'll appreciate your gift just as much as I do.

[How could he possibly turn down the sweetest thing anyone's ever offered him?]

[chainbroke]

I'm so glad. It's only half, but I think it'll be okay all the same.

[ She definitely believes it's magic. It probably is. ]

[sixfingeredstan]

I think so, too. The meaning of it is still there, after all.

[And Ford is the last person who'd express doubt in the power of magic, truth be told.]

May I see it?

[chainbroke]

Of course.

[ She'll hand it over to him! It tastes like starfruit, by the way, just a little sweeter. ]

[sixfingeredstan]

[Ford takes it, turns it over in his hands, and wraps it up carefully in his handkerchief. This he sets aside carefully and then holds open an arm toward Naminé.]

Come here, you. That deserves a hug.

[chainbroke]

[ Oh, wow, she underestimated how touched he is at the gesture. She smiles and goes in for a hug, wrapping her arms around him. ]

I'm really happy you like it so much.

[sixfingeredstan]

[Ford gives her a good squeeze, letting his stubbly cheek rest against her hair.]

I really do. It means a lot to me. Fiddleford and I...what we have hasn't always been easy. It's been a very long road. And who knows what'll happen when we leave here. But maybe your gift will hold us together, somehow.

[chainbroke]

Hmm... Well, I believe in you both.

[ She looks up at him. The future is never certain, especially here. She's always known that, but it's even more obvious to her now, after everything. ]

I'm sure everyone else does, too. After all, your bond is already strong, even without something like a paopu fruit.

[sixfingeredstan]

I'm very glad to hear it. And if you think that's the case, then I'm going to trust you on that.

[Ford drops his arm and lets her go.]

Thank you. You're a very good kid.

[chainbroke]

[ Wow... trust. It feels kind of warm, and it's such an amazing feeling, she decides she'd like to hear that more often. ]

You're welcome. I'm just doing what I can, for those who have helped me more than I ever thought possible.

[ Like Ford. He'd been one of the first ones she'd opened up to. He's been so kind to her, and now that she thinks about it... she gets the same feeling from him as she gets from Kairi's memories of her grandmother.

So they really have become like a little family, haven't they? ]

That's perhaps the best part of this place. Even though we're all stuck here...we're helping each other out as best we can. I think that's very important.

[He glances down at the little bundle of fruit in his hand, and then tucks it away in his breast pocket.]

I can't wait to show this to Fiddleford. I hope he likes the idea...

[chainbroke]

Mm, I think it's amazing. That even after everything, we still all care for one another. And we want to see everyone happy, and safe.

[ It's good. And it speaks volumes about the depth of human--and other species--kindness. ]

Oh, I hope he does, too! Will you tell me how it goes?

[sixfingeredstan]

I like to think it's just what any decent person will do.

[He gives her a wink.]

Absolutely. Unless he turns me down, in which case I'll be locked in my room for the rest of the week.

[It's joke.]

[ OH NO ]

W-well, I hope that doesn't happen!

[ not her ship ]

Not to worry! I'm sure everything will go according to plan.

[ She relaxes a little. ]
