[Now that we've got that out of the way, it seems the participants are free to explore the manor at their leisure. The entire first floor is available to them at all times, and any attempts to maneuver outside or to a different floor will prove useless. Seems you're going to get very familiar with this area over the next week or so.

There may be something there that wasn't there before, namely, a set of rules posted next to the bios. Take heed of them, mortals. If you wish to have a private conversation with your Host, it's now entirely possible.

With all that in mind, exploring sounds like a good idea. Proceed with caution, mortals. There are no safety bars to be lowered here.]

[Ford is minding his own business, looking for kindling and maybe kerosene, when a very small orange man waltzes in and begins digging through the drawers alongside him. Ford, being Ford, promptly forgets what he was doing and stares.]

Are you...looking for something in particular?

[Whatever the human is doing, it must be important and thus shouldn't worry about helping Wander. He's got this.]

Yeah, but I got it all handled.

[No he's not. He rummages through the lowest drawer, doesn't find what he's looking for, and slams it shut. He sighs.] Sorry, got a little loud there. [Onto the next one up.]

Ah. Right.

[Ford holds up a hand, shaking his head.]

No, not at all. Sorry, ah—you're Wander, correct? The alien?

That's me! [He turns his head at Ford and waves.] And you are...

[Grey hair, glasses, what was that name again?] Stan, right!

Please, call me Ford. Stan is my brother.

[It's a long story. Their parents weren't great at names.]

Pleasure to meet you. I've never met anyone of your species before. If I may ask, where do you originate?

There's a guy here named Fiddleford. Guess I have to call him Fiddles instead!

[Fiddles is a cute nickname. Cute nicknames are always acceptable.

Oh, yes, he and I are from the same place.

[And he's been nothing but a thorn in Ford's side so far.]

Please call him Fiddles. He loves that name.

[Ford is so happy. Fiddleford is going to hate that.]

Of a sort, yes. We went to university together, and worked together for a time after that.

What kinda university? Did they teach you ghostology there? Are you a time traveler? Is that how you got 12 PhDs?

Uh—no, it was just a normal college, really. [Far too normal for Ford's tastes, but can you really blame him? He could have gotten into the best schools if fate hadn't intervened.]

They didn't teach me about ghosts, unfortunately. I learned about them on my own. And I don't time-travel, per se, but I have traveled through many different dimensions. Some of them resulted in a PhD or two, yes.

Normal's relative. [Shurg!!] Did you go to other universities in other dimensions? Are they like other galaxies?

[What if they were like alternate universes?]

Hold on. What if...[He smacks his cheeks with his hands.] What if you could travel to all of our galaxies and we can meet up altogether!

Some of them were, yes.

[Ford chuckles. Wander, whatever you are, you're adorable.]

Unfortunately, my portal-jumping days are long over.

Awww, can't we try jumpin' dimensions just a little bit? I never traveled to an alternate timeline before.

Well, not knowingly and not for more than a second. [It was a weird gag.]

Not from here. [Ford shakes his head, a little sternly.] And even if we could, I wouldn't. It's far more dangerous than it's worth.

Like, you need a special magical artifact or machine to do it? We gotta get to your lab? That's understandable.

[sixfingeredstan]

A machine, yes. Which has now been destroyed. And will never be rebuilt.

[Not if Ford has any say in the matter, anyway.]

[Well that's disappointing. Wander looks crestfallen for a moment, mourning the loss of a wonderful device that someone must have spent years building.

But that's in the past.] Well, I bet it and its inventor had a good run while it lasted.

Well, that was me, actually. And it wasn't quite what I imagined...but I certainly learned quite a lot.

Oh! [This is. This is great.] Congratulations Mr. Stan. You really are a genius. I'm sorry about what happened to your machine.

Please, uh, call me Ford. And it's really all right. It was incredibly dangerous. It was necessary to destroy it.

Whoops, silly me! [He slaps himself on the forehead and grins.] Mr. Ford, I do hope you find what you're lookin' for. You seem like the type of guy who'd get us outta here in no time!

I'm certainly trying. Mainly what I'm looking for are the materials to ignite a fire. I'm hoping to find some kerosene around here somewhere...

[...Wander is considering that.] Feels kind of rude to burn down someone's house, doesn't it?

I'm not trying to burn it down. I'm just trying to burn a hole through the wall to the outside and get us all out of here.
