Week 3

[Well, someone took the bait last week, and now two people (if either of them could really be called a person) are dead. Not only that, it seems like your first host is now out of commission and replaced by someone who claims to be The Phantom. While he may not be incredibly worse than Facilier yet, it would be a stretch to say he's an improvement.

But, things aren't all bad! When the guests wake up on Sunday, they will find the stairs in the foyer are now open, leading to a whole new floor to explore!

And there's booze so no one will have to drink vinegar anymore.

[It's difficult to be happy about being able to cook when two people died for it. Rémy works with less enthusiasm than two weeks ago. Sure, the quality is outstanding again, but he's not bragging or being cheerful about this all.

Yeah, the reality of the situation is weighing on him now.

Still, that new floor gets his attention. He spent the entire Sunday exploring every nook and cranny and found no way out. Figures. On Monday he tries to interact with the stuff.

Music Room

Music would be rather nice, actually. Rémy explores the instruments, walks on the piano keys, and overall seems to like it all, but it's not like he can do much with any of these]

Rats have musical instruments too, but nothing as big as these ones.

[He comments that, pulling from a guitar string and letting it strum. The sound does bring back some fond memories.

The bar is another place he checks. There sure is a lot of booze in here. Rémy takes a bottle of wine and puts it on the counter, lying horizontally and making sure it won't roll down and shatter on the floor. He's examining the cork]

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take a lot to get me drunk, but if I had a choice I'd go for a wine like this one. This is quality wine!

Music Room

Really? What kind of instruments do you have? [That sounds kind of adorable.]

Nothing as fancy as these ones! The band had to make their instruments by themselves, like taking pieces of wood and carving them until they got what they wanted. A flute, a drum set, some kind of harp...

[They were pretty good musicians -- most likely the only musicians in the clan, but yeah]

Oh wow, that sounds really cool! Do they play for humans like you cook for humans?

No, it was only for us. I don't think they'd even want to play for humans if they had the chance.

Oh...I guess you're pretty special. Your family...isn't mean to you about it, are they?

[Something about Rémy's demeanor changes, he seems to get his guard up, pulling idly from the string of a guitar]

Not anymore. Dad didn't like me being near humans because...uh...you know, humans didn't want rats around them, he thought I was getting myself into danger.

But now it's all okay! We're all living in the bistro, and we get along with my human friends. All is okay now.

Oh...yeah. I guess that's true. [Doraemon is scared of mice, after all. At least he hasn't experienced the episode where he goes crazy enough to try and blow up the world to get rid of every mouse.]

But that sounds really good! Ooh, what are your human friends like?

[Rémy smiles]

Linguini is a dork, but he's a good dork. I used to cook for him when... [Hm] ...it's a long story. He's now a waiter, that's something he's really good at and he's happy about it! And then there's Colette, his girlfriend. She's a great chef, I'm proud of working along her. We had a bit of a rocky start, but I think we're friends now, even if we can't talk to each other.

We're all the co-owners of Le Ratatouille!

A waiter...I guess if he's happy, that's what's important! [He'd always heard that spoken of as the kind of job you'd end up with if you didn't go to school, but if he owns the restaurant, he must be pretty rich now, right?]

Ooh, the name has "rat" in it! That's pretty cool!

It's the name of a vegetable dish. We're rather fond of it for sentimental reasons.

Really? Is it the recipe you're best at or the first one you made or something? Could you make it here too? [He leans in, looking interested.]

It's the recipe who won over the harshest food critic we had encountered. He's even an investor in our bistro now!

[And even though he lost his job he's pretty happy with life. All is well that ends well!]

Of course I could make it! I'd even make it for you right now, if you have half an hour to wait!

[Rémy's eyes are shining a bit. The reluctant demeanor from not too long ago is gone]

Wow... [That's a fantastic story and Noby is transfixed by the idea.] Oooh, yeah! I want to taste it too after you said all that cool stuff!

[As if Rémy's going to miss the chance to do something tasty and also brag a bit more, hah. It's a relief, though, being able to do it again after a few days of being an absolute disaster in the kitchen.

Right, wash your paws, take the vegetables, and start working!]

The curse last week was awful, but I'm finally back into the kitchen. I hope you didn't have that much of a hard time with yours...

[Aw little rat fingergun, that's adorable. Noby hums a little as he follows along.] Well...it was kinda tough, but there were lots of people willing to help! So really it turned out alright in the end!

Oh, um...well, everything I tried to do went super-wrong? I kept tripping and bumping into things and messing up stuff I should be good at.

[That's not so bad, Rémy thinks. Another curse he wishes he had instead of what he got]

That could have been worse. Consider yourself lucky.

[It takes a short while for the ratatouille to be ready. He made a lot more than just for one person, looks like he's still making food for as many as possible]

Yeah, I guess it was pretty lucky it only lasted that long... [He smiles when he smells the food cooking, grinning as Remy serves it up.] Oh wow, that smells really good! And it looks nice too!
