Week 3

[Well, someone took the bait last week, and now two people (if either of them could really be called a person) are dead. Not only that, it seems like your first host is now out of commission and replaced by someone who claims to be The Phantom. While he may not be incredibly worse than Facilier yet, it would be a stretch to say he's an improvement.

But, things aren't all bad! When the guests wake up on Sunday, they will find the stairs in the foyer are now open, leading to a whole new floor to explore!

And there's booze so no one will have to drink vinegar anymore.

[Marco can't help but laugh a little bit at his weird pronunciation -- he knows it's just because he hasn't seen them before but it's still funny okay.]

Nachos.

[He enunciates for Kit, before he pulls a chip out to show him.]

They're a comfort food for me, and I make them whenever someone in my house is upset. And after all that happened last week, I think everyone deserves a nice plate of them.

Nachos.

[He repeats the correct pronunciation, eyeing the chip with interest. So it's another kind of bread, very thin, like a cracker -- oh my god. Oh my god it's just hot cheese and crackers. It all thunks into place.]

I think you're right. And I'm sorry about... Uh.

[You know. The whole nasty business after the trial. He's pretty aware that's partly why these nachos are needed.]

It's fine, you didn't know any of that would happen.

[Marco shrugs it off, and takes a bite from his chip.]

I mean, I tried a spell once and had it literally blow up in my face before.

Oh!

[Oh thank god it's not just him who can't magic when everyone else is apparently great at it.]

Magic is a lot more difficult than I've been led to believe, it seems like.

[He takes a nacho and takes an experimental bite. What the hell. What the fuck that's so good.]

Yeahhh... it seems to be really picky with how you cast your spells.

[And who.. casts spells....]

Like most of Star's spells have to do with poses as she casts them, and if she gets the pose even a liiiiiiittle wrong it'll cast wrong.

...You have previous experience with magic?

[ +1 person to bother with questions when things get inexplicable, yes good ]

Oh, uh.. I mean personally? Barely.

[Marco sheepishly runs a hand through his hair as he explains.]

I've only cast one spell before and I mean.. it worked but it also backfired pretty bad. Other than that though I'm currently living in a dimension where magic powers everything.

Magic castle, magic horses, magic people... everything's magic.

That much is far greater than any I've had. After last week it seems prudent to have more than the one person to ask about such things.

...Have you any knowledge of spirits? And I do mean any. Some idea of what I ought to look for in the library here, if nothing else.

Spirits?

[Marco brings a hand up to his chin, humming thoughtfully for a moment.]

Well I've watched these guys on T.V who, like, devote their lives to hunting and getting rid of ghosts. The main thing is we have to figure out why they're still on this plane of existence. Could be because they want to exact revenge on the person that killed them, could be because they died while looking for the T.V remote.

But as soon as we figure that out we can start working on sending them to the afterlife and leaving us the heck alone.

[ Basil listens to all this information, then spends a while contemplating it in silence. There are several lines of questioning he could pursue from here.

But first things first. ] What is "T-V"?

[ It sounds a bit like a disease. It's not some form of tuberculosis is it. ]

Oh, you're from one of those kinds of dimensions huh?

[you wont accept time travel marco but you except dimension that are in a different time period??]

It's a metal box that can play movies, I guess. You know what movies are, right?

Moving pictures? We've a room here dedicated to those, if you recall.

[ "Metal box" though? Not quite how he'd describe anything in the projector room. ]

Do you mean a machine of similar function to what we have here, but which follows a different design?

Yeah! Like... instead of projecting the pictures on the wall, it plays them in the box if that makes sense.

[look yall broke the projector like week one he forgot about it]

Hm. Sounds like a better design. [ Certainly more portable, if he's imagining it correctly. Alright, that's taken care of. ]

How do these chaps go about determining what's holding a spirit here then? ...That, and is every spirit they find a ghost?

....isn't spirit just another synonym for ghost?

Miss Facilier's assured me there are spirits called "Loa". They're more powerful and dangerous than mere ghosts.

And then there's the matter of demons. Are those not real? I've really no idea of what's reasonable to expect regarding spirits and magic.

Oh no, demons are definitely real. They'll steal your best friend and reanimate the corpse of your favourite martial artist for you.

I guess, though, if we wanted to get rid of stuff like ghosts and demons we'd.. preform an exorcism?

[ That is... incredibly specific.

And now Marco is the manor's Official Demonologist. ]

Is there any standard method, or? You did say with ghosts the reason they were still around affected things somehow.

[ If Facilier was working a Loa this might be inapplicable, but. Maybe there'll be something he can work with... And so far there's no definitive proof as to what Facilier's "partner" might be. ~~besides disturbing~~ ]

[He's totally down to be the Official Demonologist, absolutely.]

Uh.. well you have to capture the ghost or demon or whatever in a room, first. And then you're supposed to like, douse them with holy salt or water or something and say a chant and it erases them from existence... or so I've heard.

[Marco reaches up to scratch his chin, thinking for a minute.]

Ghosts can stick around 'cause they're mad about something or something was unresolved before they died, like if a victim's murderer was never caught or something so maybe Randy just has some issues he needs to work through.

[That gives Marco a dumb idea, and he lets out a snort.]

We could try giving him therapy?

[ Taking this in, making mental notes. ]

...We ought to try anything likely--but I'm calling "not it" there.

I'm also calling "not it". We should let a trained professional deal with the inner workings of that crazy guy's mind.

[So what if he has an A in psychology? Marco is going absolutely nowhere near that.]

Lets stick to the capture-and-salt plan, that sounds more workable.

...Where does one find blessed salt, or--do we need a clergyman.

Does Lekmet count as a clergyman. [ is this a serious question, no one knows,
Basil isn't sure and he's the one asking ]

...yeah, sure. Why not.

[He's some kind of angel goat demon guy, he probably counts.]

We can probably get him to bless some salt.. or.. something. We need a bunch of candles too and someone who knows what to chant during an exorcism.

Candles, salt, those should be doable. I'm uncertain about the chant... but I'll go back to the books in the library. This method is sounding more and more possible to attempt.

Would you be up for assisting with the salt? The food in the kitchen restocks itself, so if we find some appropriate containers we can collect the salt over time, and eventually we should end with a good amount of the stuff.

Yeah, I'd be down with that.

[Marco gives a friendly smile at that, and he shoves his hands in his hoodie pockets.]

We probably shouldn't take all the salt from the kitchen though. So, y'know. People can still eat moderately tasty foods.
