[Well, someone took the bait last week, and now two people (if either of them could really be called a person) are dead. Not only that, it seems like your first host is now out of commission and replaced by someone who claims to be The Phantom. While he may not be incredibly worse than Facilier yet, it would be a stretch to say he's an improvement.

But, things aren't all bad! When the guests wake up on Sunday, they will find the stairs in the foyer are now open, leading to a whole new floor to explore!

And there's booze so no one will have to drink vinegar anymore.

Too many bad futures around for my taste. But it sounds like we both inspired people at least! I think that counts for something.

[She groans and flops down to lie on the piano chair.]

She told you about that? I didn't technically steal it.

Yes, but... based on what was happening when I came here, it's less a bad future and more... the future.

[ Jyn lets out a single noise of laughter. ]

Alright, let's hear your side of the story, then.

Well, there you go! That's a pretty swanky deal. I mean, except for the not being there part. That's a downer.

[She kind of blushes at the laughter but quickly stuffs it down.]

Uh, well, I, the one-of-a-kind Squirrel Girl, applied for a job? And I didn't know who else was up for it and thought it was like, huge important heroes and not. A kid? I mean, there were other heroes but they turned it down.

Anyway, I kind of maybe lied a whole bunch?

[astronomics]

It's fine, I... made my peace with it before. Anyway.

[ Back to this story business. ]

Lied? You? How so?

I mean, I kind of padded my resume a bit? Added a year or two to my superhero work. Tried to make myself seem like a better option. Said things like "oh, I'm not using this as a way to sneak onto the Avengers team. I love kids and raising them is the most rewarding job I could ever imagine."

I thought everybody did it!

[astronomics]

[ Jyn laughs a little. ]

I can't say anything, I used to forge official Imperial documents for fun.

[Hmmmmmm]

Those guys do sound like dinks...

Still, kinda feels like I compromised some beliefs there.

[Doreen: feels bad about getting a job.]

They are. But as far as lies go, one or two on a resume definitely isn't the worst you could do.

I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to stand for truth, justice, and general goodness and all that. Feels pretty phoney considering how I started.

There's... probably worse lies though, I guess

And you do now. I'd say just from meeting you you've probably more than made up for that resume.

...Well. I hope I've earned that compliment.

Unless you've been feeding me some very well-disguised lies, I think you have.

Well, I did try to take over the world that one time. Does that count?

Erm, a squirrel died and I kind of went nutty and anti-human?

But I fixed it and now its all fine.

[astronomics]

That's... does that happen a lot to superheroes?

[kickbuttseatnuts]

More often than you'd think! Superheroes kind of mess up a lot. We got a lotta former villains who are heroes now. And heroes who were villains.

...Wow, a lot heroes just faced no punishment for some stuff now that I think about it. Earth might have a serious problem.

[astronomics]

Well, that's... your world sounds very complicated, Doreen.

[kickbuttseatnuts]

Its... a lot to keep track of. I guess that's what heroes are there for? To try to keep things as peaceful as it can be. Even if the status quo is... a little much.

Space seems pretty hectic too though. Evil empires, rebellions, staying on the run... it sounds like a heck of an environment.

[astronomics]

A lot goes on. I've lived on... eight different planets? And I've gained and lost a lot of allies along the way.

You know, we used to have something a lot like superheroes, actually. Until the Empire came.

[kickbuttseatnuts]

[A low whistle] That's a lotta planets alright.

Friggin' evil empires. Always crushing hope and heroes and- ugh. Sorry you gotta put up with bozos like that.

[astronomics]

It's illegal to even talk about the Jedi anymore, but... my father believed very strongly in them. And believe me, I have no love at all for the Empire.

[kickbuttseatnuts]

Yeah, that sounds like that ol' fascism funtimes I expected.

That's one benefit of this place, at least. You could yell insults about the Empire all day if you wanted to!
