Week 4

[Two more people died this week. Two children. And they died because of a freak accident. Despite all your protests, Randall refused to let Jane get away despite being innocent.

But there is a tiny ray of hope now, which comes in the form of the mirror. Now that the mirror is public information, you can see people you care about, even if they are dead and trapped in hell. Not only that, but you now now that someone is trying to save you all from the predicament that you're in. And this time there's a good chance that he won't turn out to be a heartless mass murderer!

Still, the ideas for the plan are vague and you have no idea when you will actually get out. It's hard to keep up hope when your only chance of living might still end with you horribly killed, isn't it?

At least you have a new floor and the ability to wash your clothes now.

Hey.

[Marco gives Hiro a little halfhearted smile, and he just kind of pushes past him into his room, because he knows Hiro wouldn't object to it anyway, and takes a seat on his bed carefully so he doesn't bother a sleeping Kim.]

I couldn't sleep so I thought "Hey, why not bother Hiro and keep him awake too?", h-haha..

[Today's been Rough.]

[ Kim is...almost asleep, nearly, on her floor-mattress, so Marco gets a wonderfully eloquent greeting of: ]

Mmmrrko? Whaf's w'ong? Wha' is it?

[ ...her face is still like. mostly in the pillow. ]

Go back to sleep, Kim.

[Just gonna reach over gently pat her shoulder. Pat pat.]

[ And that's all it takes, she's out. ]

[Once Kim's out, Hiro turns to Marco, expression faintly worried. He heard (vaguely) from Kim what happened earlier, but he's not sure if Marco will actually want to talk about it or if they should talk about something else.]

Do you . . . want to talk about earlier? Or just. I dunno, tell me about your friend Star?

[He probably should talk about it honestly, get those feelings nice and aired out properly. And maybe talking with someone un-involved would help him feel better... but at the same time he wants to forget it ever happened. And he doesn't really want to talk about Star right now either, after the fact that Randall teasing him with her execution was what set him off...


So in reply Marco just buries his face in both of his hands, and shakes his head a couple of times.]

I don't wanna talk about either...

[He moves his hands down a little bit and looks up at Hiro, his expression distraught.]

I didn't think.. any of that would happen when I punched him! And I almost got Kim killed because of it!

[Hiro frantically gestures at Kim because he doesn't know if Kim is a light sleeper or not but????? He doesn't want to wake her up. She's had a hard day. Let Kim Rest.]

Do you - do you want a hug? [Hugs make people feel better, right???] We can talk about something boring and not terrible like . . . math. Chemistry? Oh god - forget I said that. I can hear my friend lecturing me about chemistry across the dimensions.

[Marco stares at Hiro for a minute, like he's almost confused about what the fuck Hiro is talking about before he just.. gets to his feet and pulls Hiro in for a big one.

He offered, so of course Marco's going to take him up on it. He always gave Star hugs when she was upset, and vice versa so he's a huggy fellow! This is totally not weird at all despite it being the first guy he's hugged who wasn't his dad!!!!]

I don't wanna talk about school when I don't have to, Hiro.

[It's a little muffled when he says that because. Y'know. Hug.]

[Hiro hugs back a little awkwardly, like he doesn't actually give or get hugs very often. That's not quite true, but he's still getting used to having friends and signs of friendship in general. It's a process - he doesn't even really know how you make???? Friends????? So far he's just stolen them from other people or they kept coming to talk to him and he didn't send them away.

Is that how friendship works????? Is it really that easy??????? Seems very fake, honestly, but okay.]

We can talk about whatever. It was just a suggestion, because I don't want to - if it's gonna make you upset, then I don't want to make you talk about what happened? Or your friend. Or school stuff.

[You're a good egg, Hiro. Even if this is kinda new for you and kinda awkward.]

It's fine it's just... have you ever been chased down a hall by a guy wielding a giant, bloody mallet with demon eyes before?

[Marco just kind of.. sinks into him a little bit, and grips at the back of his shirt a little tighter. Don't mind that.]

It's not exactly the way I wanted to spend my day, yesterday.

[Awkwardly . . . rubs circles on his back??? He remembers Aunt Cass doing that when he was upset, so.]

No, but I had to save San Fransokyo from evil robots once because a mob boss dangled me off a building so. [It's not the same, but he's trying to say he Gets It.] Sometimes a lot happens and it sucks? But at least you're alive, you know?

[We're. Whether he's referring to everyone, him and Kim, him and Hiro.. who know.]

I mean, I was almost crushed to death by some lizard lawyer guy once so really if you think about it this was a piece of cake.

[Except he feels a lot more guiltier about this because Kim was involved... over his own stupid feelings..]

I just wish we weren't so helpless against that... [dont you swear because hiro did a swear once]

[Funny story: Hiro usually swears a lot more but he doesn't want Kim to be disappointed in him so he doesn't usually.]

My brother - [Hiro swallows.] My brother says that we're not alone. There's . . . There's people looking for us and trying to get us out of here - we just have to believe in them.

[That has Marco perk up a little bit, and he gently pushes himself back to look at Hiro, still holding onto him as he does because frankly hugs are nice.]

So you got to talk to him after all?

I did but - [Hiro looks like he's going to say something, but then he backtracks.] It's not important. The important thing is that there's people out there who are looking for us. We just - we just have to stay alive.

[The fact that Hiro backtracks like that is a little worrisome, to say in the least. He knows he's just trying to comfort him since.. well he was the one who came here as a bit of a wreck but it doesn't feel right to just let it go so easily, either.]

Of course staying alive is important Hiro, but you know what else is important?

[Marco lets go of Hiro finally, and he reaches into his hoodie pockets to take out his notepad and a pencil.]

Really, it's not important.

[He came to terms with Tadashi being dead and now Tadashi's not dead and he seems like he's the real Tadashi? But also he could be . . . Hiro's not entirely convinced. He's just not, but he doesn't want to ruin everyone else's hope, so he just. He doesn't want to talk about it.]

It was just weird to talk to him again.

[Marco echoes him, looking a little bit curious.]

I mean, I guess I kinda get it. You know, Lekmet actually died in battle a few months before we all woke up here, and I'm still not used to him being alive again.

Yeah, it's just. It's just a lot to process, I guess? [Hiro shrugs.] Like, I'm - I'm happy my brother is alive, but at the same time this - this isn't how I wanted it to happen.

[At least he hasn't actually learned the full details of Tadashi being a murderer. At least there's that.]

Yeah, that's.... this is probably the worst situation for something like that.

[Marco puts his notepad away, deciding maybe not to take notes on that because that's kind of a really personal subject. Instead, he reaches out to gently place a hand on his friend's shoulder, and gives him a little bit of a smile.]

But hey, even if it sucks, at least you'll get to see your brother again.
