[One week. One week spent in the Haunted Mansion, and nothing seems to have changed. The hinges still creak in doorless chambers, strange and frightening sounds still echo through and you still occasionally catch a flicker of candlelight out of the corner of your eye. You might be slowly becoming familiar with the mundanity of this communal life, and we've recognized that possibility.

Something has to give.]

Hide them? [Maui's brows lifted in surprise. Being a little power incontinent was normal, but trying to bury them deep... Maui's powers were what made him who he was. He couldn't imagine trying to choke them down.]

Why would you ever do that? No wonder you were having problems. Awesome power like that isn't meant to be bottled up.

[Just for that, you're getting two lightly fried fish filets, Elsa. And a stern look. What the heck...]

[Well, he certainly is... blunt. Elsa tries not to flinch at just how blunt his words are, but she can't hide it.]

Magic isn't common, where I'm from. Especially magic as powerful as mine. When I was younger, I had trouble controlling it, so I had to be careful so I wouldn't scare anyone.

[The flinch doesn't quite register in the demi-gods mind. Really, he was used to people cowering around him. Even if he wasn't trying to be threatening, he had a rather powerful countenance, and a loud voice. Perks of being awesome, he liked to think.]

And, what, let me guess? When you wanted to learn how to walk, you decided to keep sitting so you couldn't fall? And when you wanted to sail, you stayed on shore?

C'mon, princess, you know that doesn't make sense. You don't learn control without practice.

[She looks a little guilty. She'd promised herself and her sister that she'd try to stop putting herself down over her powers, and she had been getting better in the year since her coronation. But... that only really concerned the present. In the past... she still has a lot to feel guilty and conflicted over.]

I had no other choice. As I said, magic is an incredibly rare thing in Arendelle; so rare that most people believe it's only the stuff of fairy tales. There was no one I could ask to help me learn about my magic, so... all I could do is try and keep it contained.

You keep talking about this in the past tense? Does that mean you've gotten better?

[He wanted to add "gotten smarter," but kept his mouth shut. It was obvious that she was a bit sensitive about this stuff, and after his own fit during his last power hiccup? He was... a bit hesitant to cause any more of a fuss than he had thus far.]

... I wouldn't say I'm completely better. But things aren't nearly as bad as before.

[She's hesitant to talk about what happened at her coronation, what she nearly did to Anna and her kingdom, but she can dodge that, right?]

I don't have to hide it anymore. I know now that the people in my kingdom are okay with my magic. They... they like it, even. [Even after a year, the thought still kind of makes her giddy! People aren't afraid of her!] I suppose it would be more accurate to say that my situation is better.

But what about you? [The last of the filets are scraped onto a heaping plate, while the silverware and another dish were collected for Elsa. Dishes in hand, he jerked his head toward the dining room, indicating for her to follow.]

Your people are playing nice, but how are you doing?

[She'll follow! Gosh, it smells pretty good...]

As long as they're happy, I'm happy. So if they're enjoying themselves, if they're content with the state of the kingdom... then I will be too.

[Settling in, Maui speared two filets and set them on a plate for the girl. He slid it across a table into an open space. Once she was taken care of, he propped his feet up on the nearest available chair, grabbed a filet with his fingers, and began tearing into it.]

"Will be." But not yet?
