Week 6

[. . . Well last week sure was a bloodbath. A bloody, accidental bloodbath. Even with two groups trying to save you, it might start to feel doubtful that you'll ever get out of here alive. Not to mention that Randy almost killed you all on an angry whim and you're still stuck in this madhouse with him of all people.

But hey, there's a silver lining to every cloud! You get a new floor that's not a nightmarish deathscape! Aren't you glad?

[Kit doesn't go to Lekmet's Valentines shindig; not that he thinks it's a bad idea necessarily, it's just that he's already happily spoken for so there wouldn't be much point in attending. Instead he spends his Wednesday in the gym, because he discovered upon inspection that it has one of the few things in this house he recognizes instantly and knows how to use: a balance beam.

This is the one thing he still has that he's good at, though he hasn't practiced since he arrived so it takes him longer to warm up than he'd like (not to mention his clothes aren't really made for this, but he's not about to do it in his skivvies). He manages at least to get into a handstand, and some of you might find him like that, fully vertical, like this is just the most comfortable position to chill out in.

Others of you might find him seconds later, when the friendship necklace around his throat tightens unexpectedly, his hand slips, and he tumbles to the floor with a loud but very PG Ouch!

Later on, once he's decided maybe that's enough time in the gym for one day, Kit visits the library. He's been in here before, actually, because almost all of the books are ones he doesn't recognize and that means they're ones he wants to inspect. A lot of the time he hasn't been present the past few weeks can be chalked up to reading. A lot of the time. He's up through the Ks now.

Which means he's about to sit down in a velvet chair and open up a Kerouac and you should really stop him. No matter your opinions on On the Road, it's probably a bit much for this boy.]

[Sup! It's a goat with aviator goggles and a chainsaw. He looks mostly ominous at first, then starts forward to help him up.]

Hey!

[holdthetrumpet]

[Please don't help him up with the chainsaw.

Kit looks up at him from the ground, blinking to clear his head because boy did he whonk it on the way down.]

O-oh. Hi.

[It's fine, the chainsaw's switched off and casually slung over the goat's shoulder.

He helps Kit up and even dusts off the prince's top a bit.]

Aaaa-aah?

[Ah, the universal sound of, 'You okay?']

[Thanks, goat dad.

Thad.

Kit pulls a smile onto his face in an attempt at being reassuring.]

I'm alright! I've taken worse spills practicing. A bruise isn't a big deal.

[Too bad Louis doesn't know who Kerouac is! He lumbers into the room, heading straight for the Cs. After staring at the shelves for approximately five seconds, he turns to address Kit.]

Uh...d'you know if they have cookbooks, here? I never really looked around here too much.

[holdthetrumpet]

[Oh. Well that's not even a bad question, actually.]

I'm... not sure. I've been picking every couple of books, going alphabetically, and I haven't seen any... but maybe I just skipped over them.

[bayoublues]

Huh. You'd think they have at least somethin' on how to cook things other than boiled pasta.

[He scratches his head, tilting his head and squinting at the book Kit has in hand.]

What's that you're readin'? Looks intriguing.

[Says a gator who's never read a book in his life.]

[Look, if he was going to be reading books published centuries after his time, they weren't gonna be cookbooks. No offense to cooking.]

It's, uh.

[He holds it up to read the cover.]

On the Road? I'm assuming it's about some sort of traveler and his adventures.

[Not wrong but also very not right]

Sounds sorta boring. Why would this-- [He scrutinizes the book for a moment, trying to read the author's name.] --Jack...K-Ker...uack spend a whole book just followin' one traveler on a road?

[Don't mind Louis, he's going to turn around and be looking in the 'C' section for cookbooks. He doesn't quite understand that these are supposed to be organized by author, not title.]

[Hello, other Prince from France! Kit looks up from the book, saved just a few more minutes from having to experience Kerouac.]

I'm not sure about this one yet. The last one I read was kind of strange, too. I've been going in order sort of picking and choosing every couple of books. I liked, uh, what was it... The Phantom Tollbooth?

[He spent most of Monday reading that one.]

Hm, I may have to look into it soon. What's that you've got now? [Behind Beast his ever present porg waddles along at his heels, chirping curiously up at Beast then looking in Kit's direction.] Go on, I'm not going to stop you from saying hello.

[Monsieur hops closer to Kit, chirping up at him in greeting.]

It's something from the beginning of the Ks. On the Road? It looked like it might be interest-- ah.

[Okay, so. Kit has seen the porg around but he's never got a real good up close look and what the fuck it's so cute. He's never seen a penguin or a puffin before but it doesn't matter, because this is better than either.]

Hey there, little, uh, guy.

His name is Monsieur Les Gros Yeux. [He smiles a little when he says the porg's name, his eyes scanning the shelves for something short and sweet to dig into tonight.] I believe Leia said he's something from her world called a "porg".

[Monsieur chirps at his name and hops up onto Kit's shoe. Yes, hello, he is adorable and do you have snacks???]

[He sure doesn't but holy shit he wishes he did. He does just put the book aside in favor of leaning down and picking up the porg. Come up into his lap, friend.]

He sure does have big eyes. The biggest ones I've ever seen, I think. He's great.

[This is like the most pure and nice thing that's happened to him since he got here? Let Kit have one nice thing.]

[Monsieur is monsipure and pleased as punch to be a lap porg.]

He's a dear little thing and surprisingly good company. Not much of a conversationalist though I'm afraid.

[Ah, this looks promising- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. He pulls it down from the shelf and takes a seat in one of the other library chairs near Kit.]

[Ooh, living on the edge and skipping all the way to S. Aren't we taking risks?]

That's alright. Sometimes good company is enough.

Especially in a place like this.
