WEEK 3

[Karolina and Mulan are dead. The first, and hopefully the last, deaths of your stay here. Hopefully their deaths won't be in vain. Your third week here starts on a solemn note, and the mood here has taken on a significant downward spiral. If it's any consolation (it isn't), you'll find that you have two new floors to explore...even if one of those floors has about twenty STAY OUT signs nailed to it.

[ There are other people who could use the help. Other people that Lefou's made friends with, certainly. So why her...?

... But she can't bring herself to say no, because she's always been driven by loneliness. So. Naminé hesitates only a second before putting her hand in his. ]

... Okay. [ a pause. ] Thank you, Lefou.

[toogoodforhim]

[He smiles when she takes his hand, and leads the way toward the kitchen. He can gather others, catch up with others later. But she's the person he's trusted most, here. And she's trusted him with a lot, too.]

It's what...friends are for, right?

[They take care of each other.]

They're trying to scare us with the portraits, but I think they're bluffing.

[chainbroke]

Friends...

[ She repeats the word quietly, her eyes widening a little. She's avoided using the word for several people here, because... well, would they feel the same way about her?

It's encouraging. ]

We are friends.

[ Her voice is quiet, but she says it with a touch of conviction. But she looks worried all over again when she asks, ]

... Do you really think it's a bluff?

[It's encouraging, the way she confirms it. When they get to the kitchen, he fills a pot with water (the easiest step to figure out), and then sets it on the stove (an entirely different beast to figure out, but one that observation and trial and error have taught him) to boil, while he tries to find a teapot.]

I mean if it wasn't a bluff, they wouldn't have just left us to make up the meaning ourselves, right? They would have said something, so that we know what they're expecting someone to kill for...

[ Naminé stays nearby him, watching him prepare the tea. She might be making mental notes so whenever he's feeling down, she can make tea for him.

She's still unsure, but... she relaxes a little, at least. ]

I suppose you're right, but... what else would photos of two people important to me mean?

[Oh honey he has no idea what the non-Disney word he's doing here. He can't even read the name of the tea on the box, so he just sniffs a couple different kinds until he settles on one that smells relaxing enough.]

I don't know. But if we start letting them scare us with just a portrait - besides the creepy ones in the gallery, anyway - then someone's gonna get scared enough to do...something. And then next time, it'll take even less.

[It's like a mob, a little bit.]

You're right... It's just scary, knowing they can get pictures of certain people.

[ Especially one who shouldn't be able to be gotten to. ]

... But I wouldn't kill to keep them out of harm's way... Especially when they can take care of themselves. [ She smiles, a little wryly. ] They don't need me to protect them. They can do that easily enough.

It is scary.

[We don't like what we don't understand in fact it scares us...

While he waits for the water to boil, he comes over and pulls out the picture that was in his envelope, unfolding it to show her.]

This was the portrait that I got. They don't deserve to be in harm's way just because they were kind to me... I hope they leave them alone, but I also know that if they try anything, they'll have to fight a whole castle.

We've gotta believe in the people we care about to look out for themselves. And make sure that everyone else believes, too.

[ She peers over to look at it. A family? A mother and her son, she assumes. Naminé looks at Lefou curiously. ]

Who are they? They look... kind. [ At his words, she nods. To kill, just because she's frightened that they'll be harmed... it does them a dishonor.

Naminé pulls out her own envelope, and opens it. ]

Roxas, and Riku... two of my very few friends.

[toogoodforhim]

That's Mrs. Potts, and the little boy is Chip. When I was, uh, coming off of a bad relationship...

[He sounds almost embarrassed to phrase it like that, but also like that doesn't quite say enough about it.]

She was understanding when she didn't have to be.

[He looks at her picture, and then at her reassuringly.]

They look like they can take care of themselves.

[chainbroke]

[ She doesn't quite get the bad relationship part, since... she's never had one in her existence. All the same, she nods. ]

I think you're very lucky to have her. I hope she isn't worried sick...

[ She looks at the photo once more, focusing on Riku for a moment longer than she'd intended. ]

They're very strong. Both of them. Roxas is... very similar to me, in a way. He's had a difficult past, but he managed to grow from that. And Riku... he's been through terrible things.

But they've both helped me very much. Riku, especially. We spent a lot of time together, when we were both in Twilight Town.

About me? She's got more important things to worry about than me.

[But he looks at her picture again. The blond boy looks like he could be her brother, he thinks, except her eyes are softer.]

You're all so young...

I'm sure they miss you a lot.

[chainbroke]

If she was kind to you... I think you're important to her.

[ After all, Lefou seems like the type of person to easily be important to another. They haven't known each other for very long, no, but Lefou's important to Naminé now, too. ]

Roxas and I are the same age. We were... "born"... on the same day. Riku's sixteen, but... he acts a little older than that.

... I miss them, too. I didn't realize how much until I received this picture.
