Week 5

[Five deaths in one week, and almost half of the guests have died now. The Narrator is now claiming that the man who's trying to save all the guests is a cold-hearted killer, and he doesn't seem to be lying about this. But on the other hand, that doesn't explain why he continues to do any of this, or if he's even an entirely good guy here.

Whether you like it or not, tension is becoming unusually high in this hotel now.

But hey, at least you get a nice new floor to tide you over.

Really? That would be wonderful, Virgil, I'm...a bit lost.

[Virgil looks around, finding a punching bag on a side of the gym. He approaches it, beckoning Belle]

Let's see you stab this punching bag. Go ahead, do your best.

[Assessing her strength, yep]

Right. Right, okay.

[She can do that. She approaches the punching bag, steadies herself on her feet, and thrusts the spear forward—

and though the punching bag sways quite a lot, the point of the spear doesn't penetrate the thing. Odd.]

[Huh...]

Okay, you made it move, that's good. Give me a sec...

[Maybe if he holds the punching bag she'll be able to pierce it. Virgil grabs a side, leaving ample space to thrust the spear into the bag]

Give it a try again. You're doing well.

[Belle's certain that she must have hit it hard enough to at least pierce the fabric a little bit, but...perhaps she's overestimating her own strength. She nods, backs up, and then goes in for another sharp jab.

And still, nothing. The bronze tip of the spear certainly meets the punching bag as hard as she can manage, but won't go through.]

...Strange. It looks plenty sharp.

[You may have overstimated your strength, yeah]

...this may be for the better, you wouldn't want to hurt someone too much with that thing. You still can defend yourself, though.

[Little do either of them know, the tip of the spear is made of Celestial Bronze...hence its ineffectual nature against something so mundane as a punching bag.]

I wouldn't want to hurt anyone at all if it wasn't absolutely necessary. But...how do I defend myself with it?

You could use this to block attacks, or if you really need to, you could hit someone with it. I bet that'd hurt and stop most people.

Sure! Uh, let me see, there must be something around here I can use...

[He starts looking around for something long he can use, finally settling on taking off the weights of a large barbell, leaving himself with the rod]

Okay, so it's likely you'll get attacked from the front. What's important is to keep the attacker away, like...extending your arms like this? Using the spear to block them?

[He demonstrates]

[She studies the way that Virgil maneuvers his "spear," utilizing it more like a staff, and adjusts her own stance to mirror his actions.]

I think I understand. To keep their weapons away from my body.

Yes, you get it! This could save your life someday.

[BUT NOT ANYTIME SOON, APPARENTLY]

I'll keep at it. It's good to feel like I won't be utterly useless in a fight...
