Week 5

[Five deaths in one week, and almost half of the guests have died now. The Narrator is now claiming that the man who's trying to save all the guests is a cold-hearted killer, and he doesn't seem to be lying about this. But on the other hand, that doesn't explain why he continues to do any of this, or if he's even an entirely good guy here.

Whether you like it or not, tension is becoming unusually high in this hotel now.

But hey, at least you get a nice new floor to tide you over.

[you know it's a long hard week of being the self-appointed actual child leader of a band of adult children and assholes and also Sally. it's hard and nobody understands.

so today is a Me Day for Marnie. she has a box of sugary cereal, a jug of milk, and a marathon of old horror movies playing in the movie room. she might be crying; she likes the part with Maria a lot and keeps playing it.]

[forgottenfounder]

[Well, Oswald's kind of making it his duty to check on everyone. And Marnie, you're at least a little concerning. Just think about with all that sugar will do to you.]

Hey, having fun in here, Marnie?

[He cant help but notice you've... been here a while.]

I'm trying it out? I think I'm slowly forgetting what fun is even supposed to be.

[shakes box. it's empty. great.]

[forgottenfounder]

Yeah, I can understand that. [He hops into the seat next to her. Even she's taller then him, but Oswald was simply used to that in general. Even his own younger brother was taller then him.

He eyes the empty box, gaze flickering as it goes back to her.]

How long have you been in here?

[hallotween]

Two and a half Frankensteins. [beat] So, five hours, I guess. It sounds like a lot.

[forgottenfounder]

That's quite a while to be watching movies. [Of course it's a little different from the cartoons of the old days. It just feels like movies are getting longer and longer nowadays.]

The same one, too?

[hallotween]

It's a really good one! I was thinking of watching something else, but that requires getting up. [and really, why would she ever want to do that?]

[forgottenfounder]

[Looks at her, looks at the machine.

Ah.]

I'm sure I can change it for you.

[He's got children. He knows.]

Sure! [she smiles] Pick a really scary one, okay?

How about a not-too scary one?

[He knows this library by heart by now. There's some good Twilight Zone episodes for that.]

but seriously, he does occasionally remember that he's supposed to attempt to be one of the adults here (he has semi-decent Dad Instincts sometimes) and has been attempting to casually check in on a few people throughout the week, even if it's just in passing. with so few of them left, he sort of feels obligated to?]

You, uh, doing alright in here?

I mean, I guess. This week hasn't been too bad so far. [and surely it will continue being not too bad for the rest of it]

[theduck]

That's not really saying much. [compared to last week anything would seem 'not too bad'.

...and as much as he probably should be addressing the serious emotional trauma they've all developed over everyone being killed off slowly, he... has to comment on the cereal, which is clearly the more important thing here]

I don't think that counts as a balanced meal.

[hallotween]

[pauses with the spoon halfway to her mouth]

... That is literally the least of our worries. Maybe if everyone stops murdering each other for a whole week, I'll go eat a vegetable.

[theduck]

It's not the least of our worries! How do you expect to solve mysteries or-- or fight off killer ghosts if you aren't eating all of your food groups?

[see?? it's a relevant concern]

How do you expect my morale to keep up if I'm not constantly shoving junk food into my mouth? Sugar may be the only thing keeping me from murder!

[theduck]

There's healthy sugars, you know! But if junk food is really the only thing keeping you from committing murder, I think maybe there are bigger concerns than nutritional balance in meals.

[hallotween]

Exactly! Thank you for agreeing with me.

... Want some? I don't have another bowl, but you can just pour some cereal in your mouth and then some milk. It's basically the same thing.

[theduck]

[jesus it's like having another Louie around]

Uh... no. I think I'll pass, thanks.

[he will stick around though, even if it requires a topic change from disgusting sugary foods for the moment.]

What're you watching? Not more of that Twilight Zone stuff, I hope.

Gosh, no. I'm done with that for a while. [until she stops hating Rod's face. which may never happen.] This is Frankenstein! A mad scientist brings a dead body back to life, but it doesn't end well.

[theduck]

Y'know, I think I have heard of this one before. [which surprises even him, actually, given that Marnie's taste in media includes obscure nonsense like works from whoever 'Charles Dickens' is]

I get the feeling none of the movies in this place end well.

Horror usually doesn't. Everyone ends up dying-- except for the ones where there's one girl that survives the whole thing.

[theduck]

Well, if it turns out we're in one of those movies, I'm rooting for you. But hopefully it won't come down to just one of us. Or none of us.

If we keep losing people at this rate... We're even losing our captors. That can't be a good sign.

I wonder if the other games were as crazy as this one.

[theduck]

I mean, maybe all of our captors will die before everyone in the hotel dies. They can't have that many backups, right? They can't keep us here if they're all dead.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were. But then again, we've got some, uh, pretty interesting people here... maybe the others were a lot more boring.
