Week 5

[...So that was a mess. All of it was a mess, and things don't look to be improving any time soon. With tensions at an all-time high and conditions worsened, it seems pretty safe to say that this whole week promises a great deal of foreboding atmosphere.

But, hey, things aren't entirely bad. Just as Randall promised, you're now able to leave the Manor!

Just don't stay out there for too long. There's still a lot of you, and you just can't afford to lose numbers.

24 guests remain]

[SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY]

[OOC: and don't forget to fill out this week's activity check!]

[The moment Rémy considers using bandages to dress himself is the moment he'll know he has gone off the deep end, he's sure of that]

I'd rather leave any medical supplies alone. Nobody would be amused if they heard I'm using that stuff to dress myself.

[They'd say he needs to reconsider his priorities]

There's a lot of ropes and rags, I think it's a janitor's closet? A very big janitor's closet. I mean, I guess I could use something from there, but I'd like not to look like some random dishcloth.

[As if dragging a blanket behind him isn't making him look ridiculous anyway]

...I was more wondering where one might find needle and thread rather than fabric, there's plenty of fabric to be found.

"Dishcloth". [ "I look like a dishcloth" is Remy's worst-case scenario? That earns a simple, flat stare. ] Well, lord knows we can't have you looking silly.

[Rémy's ears go flat on his head, he really doesn't like that flat stare]

What? Never saw someone improvise ever before?

[He did his best, Basil]

not_over_yet: (that is quite beside the point!)

I'm simply not seeing how you can be willing to wear this, but then also entertain serious concerns over whether anything less improvised would be fashionable.

[ BECAUSE THAT'S HOW HE'S PARSING THIS ]

...If it's more a matter of your not knowing how to sew, I've some experience there. I'm no tailor, but the results would at least be clothing. [ It might not look good but y'know. It'd look better. ]

Okay, it's true I don't know how to sew but-- [You know what, he's clearly on the losing side here. Yielding to Basil's concerns may be the right thing to do] ...fine. I'll trust your judgment on the quality of improvised clothing.

Even if there's no needle and thread, we're supposed to be dexterous. We'll think of something.

It wouldn't be improvised, simply of less-than-ideal quality. But without a needle at a minimum...

[ SERIOUS THOUGHT he's very good at prioritizing ]

Hm. Were the weave large enough, I suppose threading things together by hand could be attempted... the fabric here is all of human make, it's a possibility.

[Improvised, less-than-ideal-quality...potato, potahto, as far as Rémy's concerned, hah!]

Don't say 'could', we have to give it a try! Nothing's achieved unless you try it, no matter how low the odds of it working are.

[Maybe it's because the thought of actually having something to do is lifting his spirits that Rémy's starting to sound rather cheerful. It has been a while since he truly felt like that]
not_over_yet: (perfectly normal way to sit in a chair)

[personal profile] not_over_yet 2018-02-09 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I've not given up on the needle yet, perhaps you didn't know where to look. Hm. I'd need thread... [ Leaps up, starts pacing. ] I can likely pick some out of the bedding in my rooms--yes, that'd take time, but with a little patience there's more than enough raw material.

[ Pauses to stare at Remy in thought a moment. ]

Ordinarily I'm making these things for myself... How tall are you, standing at full height? [ As opposed to, say, stooping in an attempt to look vaguely more of a mouse's height like certain people. ] If I can determine how our measurements compare, it'd help greatly in estimating how much more material I'll need.

[A certain someone who won't be named must have one heck of a back pain all the time, huh. Rémy stands up straight, letting his hat fall to the floor]

Around ten inches.

[ There's the briefest moment of posture stiffening, and then Basil proceeds as normal. Hold arms out to either side, comparing proportions and adjusting a few memorized numbers... ]

Thank you, I believe I've a good sense of how much to add. ...Rather a lot, you're well over twice my height... Hm. Depending on my luck with raw materials... I'll see how things play out there.

Room 20, feel free to ask if I forget to keep you informed. I can, ah, over-focus with projects.

I can't wait to see what you can make! But honestly I'm not sure you should do this without anything in exchange. Ask for anything you'd like and I'll see what I can do.

[Reciprocation, yeah. He doesn't want to feel like he's making other people do stuff for free]
not_over_yet: (...I'm... sorry...?)

[personal profile] not_over_yet 2018-02-10 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ...Hm. Fair enough, though he has no idea what he'd ask for. There isn't much that he'd need or want here that's actually within a fellow captive's ability to obtain...

It takes Basil a bit of thinking to come up with anything at all.
]

Perhaps keep an eye out for something smaller I could use as a cup? I'd say a thimble, but if we've truly no sewing supplies... something about that size at any rate. I've been making do, but my drinking from a human-sized cup does look a bit absurd.

Would a shot glass from the bar help?

[It's much smaller than an normal cup, at least. Sure, it's fragile and what not, buuuuut it should be less of a hassle]

A human shot glass is still half my height. Bit like using a bucket.

[ So: not really, no. ]
