[...So that was a mess. All of it was a mess, and things don't look to be improving any time soon. With tensions at an all-time high and conditions worsened, it seems pretty safe to say that this whole week promises a great deal of foreboding atmosphere.

But, hey, things aren't entirely bad. Just as Randall promised, you're now able to leave the Manor! 

Just don't stay out there for too long. There's still a lot of you, and you just can't afford to lose numbers.

[She's used to finding Remy in the kitchen. After all, he loves cooking so much, why wouldn't he spend as much time as possible in here? But she's not used to seeing him in here and looking so distressed. Cautiously, she approaches the counter, bending so that her face is on a level with his little furry one.]

Remy? Is everything alright, dear?

No, nothing's alright!

[Right, Basil had told him it was okay to admit what was tormenting him. Sure, he still didn't like to say it, but...]

My dead mentor is telling me to go kill someone, okay? That's what's going on here!

[And he hates it. Seriously, thanks a lot for tainting Gustave's memory, Randall. Rémy slumps a bit, realizing he was shouting]

I mean, I guess it could be worse, but I just hate hearing this from someone who means a lot to me.

Oh...oh, dear. [Yes, that would be rather distracting, wouldn't it? Frowning, Leia reaches out a tentative finger, like you'd offer a hand to a friend in need.]

Understandably. Would you like...I could try to say some nicer things to you instead?

[Of all things that could be said to him right now, that wasn't one he expected. For a moment he's not sure what to say, but at times like these it's always good to have someone's help. Take that finger, Rémy]

...I'd like that. It's hard to think of something positive when you have someone shouting murder plans in your ear.

[She manages a smile, and gives his little ratty paw a squeeze between her thumb and forefinger.]

Then that's what I'll do. I have to say, Remy, I don't know many humans who manage to be quite as charismatic as you. Let alone cook half as well.

[Rémy blinks once, twice. He knew some sort of compliment was coming, but 'charismatic' wasn't what he thought she'd say -- he had expected a mention of his cooking skill to come first. Are his ears getting redder? Looks like they are! Yeah, he's blushing, kind of]

I, uh, thank you! That's not something anyone had ever said to me!

[Mainly because it's hard to be called charismatic when rats used to think you're kind of strange, and humans can't even hear a word of what you're saying. Being able to be heard is great!

He's noticeably cheering up, it feels like a weight got off his shoulders. So what if Gustave is currently telling him how to smother someone with dough? That didn't matter for now]

I owe you one, Leia, I really do. I'll have to return the favor someday, whether it's by telling compliments or in some other way.

Well, now someone has. And I'm not just saying it, Remy. [She gives him a reassuring smile.] I never thought I'd count a talking rodent among my friends, but here we are.

[She snorts, and shakes her head.]

No need, dear. I get by just fine on my own.

[Such a strong leader, they're lucky to have Leia around]

I know, right? There's a lot of people here I'm glad I met, and I'd like to see again once this is over, but...it'd have been nice if it hadn't been in this place.

[He's going to miss a lot of people here, yeah. Minnie, Louis, Lekmet, Soos, almost all the humans here...heck, Gaston is included because he's not so bad, Rémy judged, bias against Beast aside]

I think a lot of us feel that way. Especially as the weeks go on. I'm glad to have met you all, but every time someone...

[Dies.]

...It doesn't help with the guilt.

...maybe it'd be easier to deal with if we still had the mirror. It felt like they weren't...gone.

I know I can't tell you not to feel guilty, and nobody should die in the first place, but looks like death doesn't have to be the end of everything.

[Not that Rémy is feeling any more hopeful about getting the dead out of wherever they are. Death is the biggest obstacle they'll ever have, and even though he'd like to think something can be done about it, he can't say wholeheartedly he believes anyone will be revived.
