Week 5

[...So that was a mess. All of it was a mess, and things don't look to be improving any time soon. With tensions at an all-time high and conditions worsened, it seems pretty safe to say that this whole week promises a great deal of foreboding atmosphere.

But, hey, things aren't entirely bad. Just as Randall promised, you're now able to leave the Manor!

Just don't stay out there for too long. There's still a lot of you, and you just can't afford to lose numbers.

That's certainly one way of putting it. Though most people weren't nearly as polite about it. I heard the words 'pain in the ass' a whole lot.

[She doesn't seem all that bothered by it. After all, it's basically a point of pride at this point.]

What? No, a girl has to stand up for herself! [ Raises her head a li- wait no leia's still doing her hair ] They probably just were jealous.

Don't get me wrong, I agree wholeheartedly. [Leia chuckles as she works, fingers braiding deftly.] It just wasn't expected for a girl of my station to act that way.

But you proved them all wrong, didn't you? You became a general, after all! I bet everyone was proud of you.

[She chuckles as she tucks a pin into the end of the first braid.]

I suppose you're right. It's different, looking at everything that's happened when I'm so removed from the situation. At the time, it all just felt like...the thing to be done. The next step in the natural progression of things.

...I get that. That's how it felt when I decided to leave my friends. From the, um, the hero thing, I was doing. It was all so sudden, but it felt...time.

That's not an easy choice to make, but when you get that feeling...it makes it just a little easier.

[The bottom half of Kim's hair dealt with, Leia unclips the top part and begins to section it out.]

But it's okay to still have...second-thoughts about feelings, right? Even if you think you did the right thing?

[ Leia seems like the kind of person to talk to about this, right? Right?? ]

Of course. Kim, your...[How does she put this?]

Your feelings are your own. Nobody can tell you that they're right or wrong except you, as long as they're not harmful toward anyone else.

[ She lets out a light sigh. She's still sorting through all of those- if they're harmful or not, but... ]

Thanks, Leia. I always feel better talking to you about stuff.

[That makes her smile as she sets about twisting a part of Kim's hair into something like a victory roll.]

Well, that's what I'm here for, you know.

I know, I know... [ She squirms, just a little, to get a look at her hair. ] Oh...! It looks really, really amazing so far!

[Leia holds the chunk of hair she's working with steady while Kim move to check her progress, and smiles.]

I'm glad you think so. This is something you'd wear during, say, a springtime festival. Some kind of celebration.

Springtime? Oh, I have a dress back home that would go with it, perfectly. All floral and pink.

[ of fucking course it's pink ]

[Leia chuckles.]

That does seem to be your signature color, doesn't it?

[ She grins sheepishly. ]

It's kind of a...special inside joke.

Oh? Something to do with that...suit of yours?

And the...hero-thing. I'm usually not supposed to talk about it, but...cat's kind of out of the bag, in a big way.

Heh. I think we've all let some cat or the other out of the bag in this place.

[She speaks full a mouthful of pins, which she pulls out one by one to tuck strategically into place.]

Yeah, I-- ...want I should hold some of those for you?

[Leia waves a hand.]

I've got it. [A couple more pins in the right place, and she finishes off Kim's hair with a couple of tugs to make sure everything's in the right place.] There. You look beautiful, Kim.

[ Now that she's able to move and get a better look at everything, Kim looks in awe. She tilts her head this way and that, to try and catch all the intricate curls and braids. ]

Wow... Leia, it looks amazing.

You think so?

[She looks....inordinately pleased by that. Look, she never had a daughter. This is...nice. Leia gives Kim's shoulders a squeeze.]

I'm very glad you like it. It suits you.

Absolutely! Oh... [ For a moment, she automatically thinks, she wonders if Tommy would like it-

And moves to tuck her hair behind her ear but oops it's all done up. She smiles all shy and grins at Leia. Focus on the here and now, Kim. ]

I'd love to wear it like this more often.

[For a second, Leia remembers what it's like to be a teenage girl, because even if much of her time had been focused on overthrowing the empire even before she was Kim's age, she'd still paused every now and then to think about things like romance. The things a girl of that age should be worrying about.]

If you like it so much, I'll teach you to do it yourself.
