[Well this is all starting to feel incredibly routine. After being trapped here for a month and a half with no sign of rescue, maybe you have just resigned to the idea that you'll never leave this place and that people will keep dying until none of you're are left.

Truthfully, I can't even pretend to make an optimistic about any of this. it's a dark and horrid world you all live in.

There are no new floors today. It seems you finally have access to the whole mansion.

[So...Soos still feel completely terrible after what happened yesterday. It was pretty much a day long train wreck, and he was positive most people probably already wanted to forget it.

But...he still felt bad about leaving Hiro the way he had back at Marco's wake, and he didn't want to just leave it at that. He felt like they needed to talk it over.

And that's why Hiro can hear a knock at his door and Soos saying something, though it's muffled by the door.]

Um, Hiro? Can...can we talk? Please?

[Hiro opens the door and he looks . . . a lot like he hasn't slept. He doesn't exactly sleep well in the first place, but last night was even worse than usual and he spent most of it petting Panko and talking to Saba, when Saba was awake.]

. . . Sorry about yesterday.

[Soos was expecting as much. He himself looks like he's gotten little sleep, and when he wasn't he was clearly crying.]

Don't...don't worry about it, dude. It...doesn't matter now, I think. You were just upset over everything, and...I don't really blame you. I...I might've done the same thing, if things were different...

But I couldn't just let you get yourself killed! You're a nice kid that's just gone through too much and...with how Randy kills people at the trials...

[He shivers, dreading the thought.]

I didn't want that happening to you.

[He still wants to complain that all playing by the rules has gotten him was a lot of fucking heartbreak, but it's - he's too tired and he doesn't really feel like explaining his whole life philosophy right now.]

. . . I get that, I guess. [He actually doesn't? But he feels like that's maybe not a thing you say to people who are expressing their desire to keep you safe.] I wasn't really thinking.

It's fine. Just...do you think you could try not to do that again? Just that much, please. Because...even if you don't think so right now...

[Soos nudges his arm a little bit, trying to be a little playful.]

There's still people here that care about you.

[It's probably a good thing Soos is the one who came to talk to him, because Soos is maybe his favorite adult besides . . . okay, realistically? Hiro only likes Lekmet better because Lekmet gave him a chainsaw and Soos took his knife away? So, you know.]

. . . Yeah. [He tries to smile and doesn't quite manage.] Someone asked me once if killing someone would make me feel better. He didn't, like, flat-out say it wouldn't, but I think that's what he was trying to tell me.

[Is that true? WELL HOW WOULD HE KNOW!! IF RESPONSIBLE ADULTS!! NEVER LET HIM TRY!!]

[Honestly? If Mabel weren't here, Hiro would probably be his favorite teenager here, and even then she's only technically a teen. He's the only one that actually tried coming up with ideas to get outside before they found out the outside is a nightmare, and despite some of the weirder things he's said, he's still pretty cool. It...it makes him wanna help him get out of here.]

Well, trust me, if it's anything like voting for people at the trials...it's probably not fun.

[Look, in the future, if they can kill someone and not die because of it, he'll give Hiro that knife back. Okay?]

What's that thing people always say? "With power comes responsibility," or something. [distantly, the mcu is screaming because hiro's not actually part of the mcu and therefore shouldn't be making that reference.] It's like what General Organa said, I guess? Just because you have a weapon, doesn't mean you should use it.

[Which he personally thinks defeats the purpose, but.]

Yeah, I think that's how it goes.

And, yeah, that's a good way to put it. Like, I may be a strong dude, but that doesn't mean I can go around and suplex people just because I can.

[And Undyne joins the MCU in screaming.]

Unless you're Gaston, apparently. [Why Is Gaston Like This and other mysteries. Hiro squeezes his eyes shut and it's so clear for a moment that he's a 14 year old kid who has seen too much death.] . . . Tadashi said they were coming for us. He's never lied before.

[He wants to go home.]

[Soos knows that look. It's the look of a kid that's seen too much too soon in his life...or anyone's life, really. It just makes him wish he could get all the kids that were stuck here back home, where they'd never have to see stuff like this ever again.]

A-and I'm sure he still hasn't. It's just...taking them a long time to find us, I think. We are pretty much stuck in the void. I think it would be more surprising if they did find us immediately...

[But he already knows it would be a welcome surprise.]

It's been a month. He's supposed to - he's always supposed to come get me.

[It's always been like that. Tadashi always comes and rescues him - even after Tadashi died, his friends stepped in and it was like . . . Even though Tadashi wasn't there, he was still looking out for his stupid little brother who constantly needed rescuing from himself.]

Th-that may be true, but...

[Soos is racking his brain, but...there's nothing. They've been stuck in this manor for over a month, with people dying almost every week, with their only sliver of hope being friends that said they could come help weeks ago. He wanted to stay optimistic, but...he was starting to think he couldn't anymore.

But there was one more option, at least.]

Well, maybe we can get ourselves out of here. Mabel and Stan have done things that seemed crazier.

. . . Yeah? I - the closest I've ever come is the time we . . . we went into a pocket dimension to save someone and I almost didn't make it back out.

[There's a very deliberate switch between "we" to "I" there.]

Stan once managed to kill a dream demon guy by tricking him to enter his mind and then having his bro shoot him in the head with a mind erasing gun to make him forget everything and trapping the demon in there and getting him killed. Then he managed to remember everything thanks to one of Mabel's scrapbooks.

[He noticed that switch, but he figures that now is probably not the time for him to ask.]
