MOCK TRIAL

[Perry the Platypus has died. There is no doubt about that. Those of you who were hoping that nobody would give in to the judge's demands have swiftly been proven wrong.

The students are hoarded to the studio lounge once again, where a large door has appeared, seemingly from nowhere. Inside, defying the laws of space and time, is an incredibly large room, bigger than any of the others. It's boring and brown, a perfect courtroom, and seems far more maintained than any of the other rooms.

Three very large framed portraits hang ominously over the whole proceedings. The first depicts an old mansion, decrepit and decaying, with an oddly purple tint. The second features a vintage building, tower-like in size and scope, against the backdrop of a bolt of lightning. The third...is considerably harder to make out. Namely, while a few bits of the picture appear to still hang there, it by-and-large seems to have been torn and clawed at by some very very big claws.

There is a circle of podiums, 27 to be exact, standing around a large bubbling pool of you-know-what. Be careful not to trip, kids. Each of these podiums bears a student's name, a small stool for sitting, and a screen and keyboard. You can guess what those are for, can't you? The podiums for our three minuscule friends come with stairs to reach the top of them, of course. 2 of the podiums stand empty, adorned with mini golden oscar statuettes depicting Edgar Balthazar and Perry the Platypus.]

Once everyone takes their places, Doom appears, sitting at a chair placed in front of the portraits. An ideal place to overlook these proceedings.]

The trial in the case of Perry the Platypus's death shall have very simple rules. You have accumulated enough evidence over the past hours and must now figure out who is responsible. When I call the vote, you shall type in the first and last name of the individual you hold responsible.

[His expression lights up just a little.]

Succeed in accumulating a correct majority vote, and you shall live while the culprit is punished. Should you fail to gather up a majority, or vote incorrectly...

Well. I suppose you'll find out.

[You have the evidence you need to piece this together, but can you apply it properly? Is there another way out of this situation? You'll just have to put your heads together and find out.]

(ooc: welcome to the mock trial! for those of you new to this, threadjacking and pointing out contradictions while contributing to the discussion is encouraged. if you have any questions, feel free to ask your mods!)

But not that it was unrelated to the real reason he died.

Saying its completely unconnected is a lie!

...But it doesn't negate the fact that you still allowed us to submit that information as evidence.

Wait. Wait, wait. There were posters in the office, and all the folks in that folder I found were on them except for the possum. Is that what the platypus was lookin' into?
rollerscoater: Scowling. (because you're a mouse)

[personal profile] rollerscoater 2017-05-13 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
We had been investigating the previous victims all week. The possum must have been one, or a victor, and Perry must have been trying to help with the investigation!

And we're establishing what it has to do with his death. The fact that all this evidence is pointing towards this, and you keep dismissing it as being insane, well.

We have talking mice and crickets and I didn't even know an animal like Perry could even exist! I'd think that was weird, but I've talked to both of them! So saying our investigation into trying to figure out the facts is insane to try and look at, when everything points to this being involved...

It really only leads to one conclusion for me, at least.

And that is.

If you're really telling the truth about being a judge and wanting justice for the victim, you're a terrible judge because a real judge wouldn't tell us to dismiss evidence.

Unless they had something to do with the death.

And even if that was true you can't ignore that there's too much saying the possum was somehow involved in some way. We can't ignore it, either!

Anna.

[As satisfying as it is, seeing their captor lose his cool when he tried so hard to be in control of them, Elsa's getting pretty worried. So she'll reach out, taking her sister by the arm and trying to turn her away from Doom from just a minute.]

I'm not saying that what you're doing isn't right, but if you anger him too much... [Her eyes drift to the side, to that familiar bubbling vat of acid.] Who knows what he'll do? We can't risk him bringing his anger down on us before we have a chance to figure out just what went wrong.

Elsa...

[heihfvoguwo ELSA SHE WAS TOTALLY DOING GR8

...

She's not sure, but she felt like she was getting somewhere, right?]

But...Elsa...wouldn't that...just prove he's more interested in what he wants than...actually getting down to what happened?

It would just prove he's a bad judge...

[Not that...this prevents him from....

...

She sighs.]

I know, I...I know...

[SHE BELIEVES IN YOU SIS BUT JUST LIKE YOU GOTTA GET HER TO CALM DOWN BEFORE HER POWERS BLOW UP SHE'S GOTTA CALM YOU DOWN BEFORE YOU PISS THE WRONG PERSON OFF]

I know, Anna. It's horrible. Disgusting. It's an insult to anyone who's job it is to protect and defend innocent people.

But... he hasn't been very sneaky with what he wants. He's been clear about his intentions from the beginning, and all of this is just... him being the cruel, mysterious person that he was when he first showed himself.
terribibble: (absolutely very upsetting)

[personal profile] terribibble 2017-05-13 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
... Hon, he's said as much. The platypus was investigatin' things to do with the possum, it's just the possum wasn't the one that killed him, or the motive for doin' it. I'd say that's squared away.

[Come on, let's all just. Let's all just calm down. Says the guy who keeps almost pulling out chunks of his hair.]
hitontheheadasachild: (and now I'm Batman)

[personal profile] hitontheheadasachild 2017-05-13 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
...it...but...

[She really did try, really!]
terribibble: (facial balance?)

[personal profile] terribibble 2017-05-13 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[It was a good effort. It really was. It's as good as any of them could do when they're all grasping at straws here.]

It's -- it's alright. We'll work it out. We will.

[He doesn't sound super convinced exactly but if he says it enough maybe it'll work?]
hitontheheadasachild: (and now I'm Batman)

[personal profile] hitontheheadasachild 2017-05-13 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
...All right. I mean...I still have the book...

Maybe...

[Give her a moment.]
kindaruledatit: (Sorry dude)

[personal profile] kindaruledatit 2017-05-13 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's... gotta be someone else. Someone here.

[The judge said. So.

Hoo boy.
