MOCK TRIAL

[Perry the Platypus has died. There is no doubt about that. Those of you who were hoping that nobody would give in to the judge's demands have swiftly been proven wrong.

The students are hoarded to the studio lounge once again, where a large door has appeared, seemingly from nowhere. Inside, defying the laws of space and time, is an incredibly large room, bigger than any of the others. It's boring and brown, a perfect courtroom, and seems far more maintained than any of the other rooms.

Three very large framed portraits hang ominously over the whole proceedings. The first depicts an old mansion, decrepit and decaying, with an oddly purple tint. The second features a vintage building, tower-like in size and scope, against the backdrop of a bolt of lightning. The third...is considerably harder to make out. Namely, while a few bits of the picture appear to still hang there, it by-and-large seems to have been torn and clawed at by some very very big claws.

There is a circle of podiums, 27 to be exact, standing around a large bubbling pool of you-know-what. Be careful not to trip, kids. Each of these podiums bears a student's name, a small stool for sitting, and a screen and keyboard. You can guess what those are for, can't you? The podiums for our three minuscule friends come with stairs to reach the top of them, of course. 2 of the podiums stand empty, adorned with mini golden oscar statuettes depicting Edgar Balthazar and Perry the Platypus.]

Once everyone takes their places, Doom appears, sitting at a chair placed in front of the portraits. An ideal place to overlook these proceedings.]

The trial in the case of Perry the Platypus's death shall have very simple rules. You have accumulated enough evidence over the past hours and must now figure out who is responsible. When I call the vote, you shall type in the first and last name of the individual you hold responsible.

[His expression lights up just a little.]

Succeed in accumulating a correct majority vote, and you shall live while the culprit is punished. Should you fail to gather up a majority, or vote incorrectly...

Well. I suppose you'll find out.

[You have the evidence you need to piece this together, but can you apply it properly? Is there another way out of this situation? You'll just have to put your heads together and find out.]

(ooc: welcome to the mock trial! for those of you new to this, threadjacking and pointing out contradictions while contributing to the discussion is encouraged. if you have any questions, feel free to ask your mods!)

[Oh boy. Ohhhh boy this is really happening. She really doesn't want to find out what will happen if they don't find the culprit, but, aren't they essentially killing someone here too? Rapunzel looks around the room at everyone, one of these people is a murderer...

They have to get through this. Somehow.]

Um. I've never been part of a trial before, h-how do we do this? Should we... Compare evidence?

[Star is wearing Perry's hat in a sort of tribute, and while she tried her best to look resolute and serious, her resolve falters the moment she sees that giant vat of gross acid stuff. Yeah, she's staying as far from that as she can.]

I wish I had paid more attention to those crime dramas Mr. and Mrs. Diaz like to watch...

[personal profile] thedukeofficial 2017-05-13 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The Duke sort of... looks around as he goes in. Sidles up to his podium. ]

Doom, baby, you have got to look into getting a better interior decorator!

[personal profile] tonewlengths 2017-05-13 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Let's all just stay very far away from the vat let's not even acknowledge that and how terrifying it is okay glad we could all agree.]

Crime dramas? Are, er, do they have trials like this?
pardonmylanguage: (speaking)

[personal profile] pardonmylanguage 2017-05-13 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tip sits down at her podium, looking pretty tired.] Hey...who was investigating the body?
kindaruledatit: (Sorry dude)

[personal profile] kindaruledatit 2017-05-13 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wendy's frazzled, but who isn't? And while she's trying to remain calm for the sake of everyone, it's equally difficult when they have to look at the bubbling broth of dip in the center of the room.

Is there another way out of this situation? Who knows, but she knew they were going to try.
]

So... What ideas do we have about the body so far?
hitontheheadasachild: (and now I'm Batman)

[personal profile] hitontheheadasachild 2017-05-13 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
...Yeah.

[Sorry cousin]
kindaruledatit: (Oh wait what)

[personal profile] kindaruledatit 2017-05-13 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, usually trials aren't in rooms like this.

[She gestured weakly to the vat in the middle of everything.]

And, they usually don't have that.

[personal profile] tonewlengths 2017-05-13 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Don't be sorry it's fine they just have to get through this and it will all be alright just get through it just do it JUST DO IT.]

Okay. Yeah. Okay. What evidence did you find? I know, that... that Perry, was found in Edgar's room, but something happened in the costume room too. There was blood in the middle of the room, and, the coat rack was broken.
hitontheheadasachild: (huh?)

[personal profile] hitontheheadasachild 2017-05-13 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nod. No, ok, we...we can do this.]

I found a book and pen in the costume room.
exclamationpoint: (oh what a shame)

[personal profile] exclamationpoint 2017-05-13 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It was moved. [He, uh. He sure didn't want to go anywhere near the blood so he had a fun morning.] I didn't really . . . look at it otherwise.

[personal profile] tonewlengths 2017-05-13 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wendy you are making it very hard to play the denial game here, definitely NOT looking at the vat.]

O-Okay, good to know. So! So maybe, we don't need to see any crime dramas to get this, if it's this unusual to start then we can just make our own unusual way.

[personal profile] tonewlengths 2017-05-13 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dealing with your problems is for nerds suppression and denial all the way]

Was there anything written in the book? If Perry happened to write down a name, that would be really helpful.
returntodarkness: (♥ Welcome the darkness into you)

[personal profile] returntodarkness 2017-05-13 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That was me. What do you wish to know?

[ ...It's like talking about the experiments again. ]
exclamationpoint: to the beat of the drums (i hear your heart beat)

[personal profile] exclamationpoint 2017-05-13 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The situation is pretty unusual, so working this out in our own way is probably the best idea.

[He's trying to be upbeat!!! He's mostly succeeding!!!]
kindaruledatit: (I always kind of knew)

[personal profile] kindaruledatit 2017-05-13 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, if she has to look any more closely at that vat at any point in the trial then she might just die.]

Yeah! None of this makes sense anyway, right? Why should it have to be 'normal'?
defyingfrigidity: (pic#7669711)

[personal profile] defyingfrigidity 2017-05-13 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Elsa learned a lot of things, in her years preparing to be queen. Law wasn't on that top priority, since there were other people who would take care of that for her. But she knew enough, and... god. This is all ridiculous. It's a farce.

But... this is the only thing they can do, isn't it? So Elsa tries to take a steadying breath - and kind of fails - and speaks.]

I found something in the costume room, too. A suit, small enough to fit a creature of Perry's size. But there was something odd about it...
hitontheheadasachild: (young man you put some pants on!)

[personal profile] hitontheheadasachild 2017-05-13 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
There was, but its...kind of hard to read. Mainly because its soaked in blood.

[She picks it up, carefully, with her dress to hold it up.]

tonewlengths: (Let's look to the chart)

[personal profile] tonewlengths 2017-05-13 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yes good attitude Troy! Thumbs up for you!!!]

That's right! We can definitely work this out, we just have to... think unusually!

[personal profile] tonewlengths 2017-05-13 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Who needs normal, not us!
returntodarkness: (♥ Welcome the darkness into you)

[personal profile] returntodarkness 2017-05-13 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He was stabbed in the head. Given his expression, he was taken completely by surprise. I can estimate his weight at about for or five pounds, which rules out the smallest among us. Unless, of course, they were creative, but the knife would have been fairly big compared to them.

[personal profile] tonewlengths 2017-05-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Flinching back EW EW EW]

Oh... y-yes, I can see, how that would make it hard. Uh. So, do you think Perry was taking notes, or the murderer?

[It's completely reasonable to expect animals to have literary skills]
pardonmylanguage: (speaking)

[personal profile] pardonmylanguage 2017-05-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you find any blood on...on Perry's spurs?
wannagetsmote: (how dare you)

[personal profile] wannagetsmote 2017-05-13 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Moved? [This'll get Maui's attention. Maui who is... looking way too big behind his podium and. Squinting at this weird piece of technology.]

There was a trail of blood from the Soundstage, to costume storage, and then to Edgar's room. There were only small splatters at first, but they got bigger as they went along.
kindaruledatit: (Oh wait what)

[personal profile] kindaruledatit 2017-05-13 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I didn't want to go in there either, dude. [It wasn't a fun morning for her either.]

So it looks like someone moved it, huh?
