MOCK TRIAL
[Perry the Platypus has died. There is no doubt about that. Those of you who were hoping that nobody would give in to the judge's demands have swiftly been proven wrong.
The students are hoarded to the studio lounge once again, where a large door has appeared, seemingly from nowhere. Inside, defying the laws of space and time, is an incredibly large room, bigger than any of the others. It's boring and brown, a perfect courtroom, and seems far more maintained than any of the other rooms.
Three very large framed portraits hang ominously over the whole proceedings. The first depicts an old mansion, decrepit and decaying, with an oddly purple tint. The second features a vintage building, tower-like in size and scope, against the backdrop of a bolt of lightning. The third...is considerably harder to make out. Namely, while a few bits of the picture appear to still hang there, it by-and-large seems to have been torn and clawed at by some very very big claws.
There is a circle of podiums, 27 to be exact, standing around a large bubbling pool of you-know-what. Be careful not to trip, kids. Each of these podiums bears a student's name, a small stool for sitting, and a screen and keyboard. You can guess what those are for, can't you? The podiums for our three minuscule friends come with stairs to reach the top of them, of course. 2 of the podiums stand empty, adorned with mini golden oscar statuettes depicting Edgar Balthazar and Perry the Platypus.]
Once everyone takes their places, Doom appears, sitting at a chair placed in front of the portraits. An ideal place to overlook these proceedings.]
The trial in the case of Perry the Platypus's death shall have very simple rules. You have accumulated enough evidence over the past hours and must now figure out who is responsible. When I call the vote, you shall type in the first and last name of the individual you hold responsible.
[His expression lights up just a little.]
Succeed in accumulating a correct majority vote, and you shall live while the culprit is punished. Should you fail to gather up a majority, or vote incorrectly...
Well. I suppose you'll find out.
[You have the evidence you need to piece this together, but can you apply it properly? Is there another way out of this situation? You'll just have to put your heads together and find out.]
(ooc: welcome to the mock trial! for those of you new to this, threadjacking and pointing out contradictions while contributing to the discussion is encouraged. if you have any questions, feel free to ask your mods!)

TIME TO HERD SOME CATS, IT'S LIKE HERDING PIGS, RIGHT, CLOSE ENOUGH,,,
[He may not be the most Protagonist in the room, but Fiddleford McGucket has a very strong self-preservation instinct and a desperate need to fix problems. They are all looking death in the face. They have to get organized.]
First thing's first, we know it was one of us, or at least the Judge says it was and he knows who. Wish that weren't the case but -- but what can you do. We know he was stabbed in the head, and there's a big old knife to explain that so I think that part's fairly open-and-shut. There was a blood trail startin' in the sound stage that ended in costume storage, and it looks like some of the clothes in there were used to mop up the blood. From there it goes to Edgar's room, which is where they -- where they left him.
[The more he talks the faster it comes, like he's trying to just get it all out before he loses his nerve.]
Anna picked up a notebook in costume storage that was missin' a page and we've more or less figured that page is the note the, ah, the platypus was holdin'. It said 'He's not who he seems' so it's probably safe to go on the theory the person that did this was a man. Or, ah. A male of whatever species -- y'know. [He is still really not used to the whole talking animal thing.] There was also a broken coat rack and I don't think we've figured how that fits in yet but it's... it might be important?
And there was a tiny little suit with the label PPP which we think might have somethin' to do with some pictures of a possum I found.
So the, ah, the current workin' theory's that the murderer is... a male possum in a person disguise.
[It... yeah. Okay. It's kind of a stupid theory but they need to start somewhere.]
Did I... I didn't forget anythin', did I? I figure the more information we have the better chance we've got. If you know somethin' and you haven't spoken up yet now'd be a real good time.

Right near where I found the suits, there was a lot of rumpled clothing, specifically the men's clothes. Both the clothes on the racks and the ones on the floor were wrinkled, but the ones on the floor were even moreso.

CLOTHES CHECK!
Okay! Great runaround with the possums, but we still have a murder to solve. How about we check clothes? All that blood, it's impossible to think the guy who did it got out without a drop on them. So, who's wearing something different?
[...for the record she is wearing the sundress she showed up in, even though she's commandeered a pink hat from costume storage as well. No blood or missing clothing for her.]

Re: CLOTHES CHECK!
Special Round: Confession unlocked
It's been hard since she rushed out of her room this morning at the first scream.]
....It started yesterday. You all remember how that Edgar guy got... dipped, right?
[Stupid question, but. She has to.] It was messed up, really messed up, just when we thought things weren't going to get worse, it just... [Huff. Okay. Okay.]
Last night, really, really late, I was trying to escape- but I wasn't gonna murder someone! ...I was going to test out the walls and stuff, see if there's any secret compartments anywhere.
[Her gaze passes over Tip as she says this.]
And I... brought the knife for protection alright? Plus I wanted to see if I could find any cracks or spaces I could jimmy open.... And that's when we ran into each other. It was dark, and neither of us could see well. But, we panicked.
[Wendy knelt down, pulling up her left pant leg to show... a rather fresh looking bruise on her ankle.]
He... got the first hit in, heh. He was fast too, but then I've got my own training. So, I pulled out the knife, and... it was over really quickly.
I don't know what I was thinking at first, probably nothing, but... I kept panicking. And, I knew what was going to happen if everyone found him, so... [She gestures to her sleeves, that are absolutely stained with blood.] I tried to clean up as much blood as I could, and I carried the little guy out of there. That Edgar dude's room was the only other one open, so I stashed him in the trunk and just... hoped, I guess.
[She's not looking at anyone anymore, just that horrible mixture bubbling in the middle of the room. She wonders, momentarily, how much it will hurt.]
So, that's it. [She almost tries to smile.] Feel free to, I don't know, get mad or whatever.
Re: Special Round: Confession unlocked
But she looks so scared. And Rapunzel really doesn't want to see anyone get dipped again.]
We can - we can get mad later. Right now, we need to get you somewhere safe.

VOTING TIME
You have all reached a consensus on who is responsible in this murder. It is time to vote.
Your keyboard is a manual entry. Input the full name of the person you've deemed responsible for this. Should you misspell the name of any of your fellow competitors, it shall be corrected for you by the system. Once your vote is registered, you cannot change it. So think carefully about your decision. Don't vote for yourself unless you actually did it.
If you choose the correct culprit, then you all get to go back to the studio, and the culprit will be punished. Should you vote wrong...I don't imagine you'll like what happens.
[It's in your best interest to think carefully about what you punch in to the machines. Make it or break it.]

EXECUTION: That's All, Folks!
It grabs him successfully by the tuft of blonde hair under his hat, leaving him screaming as it slowly drags him over the dip. It slowly lowers the good pistol packin' possum downwards, and...
Well. You already know what happens, don't you?]
i'M MeLtInG! I'm mElTiNg! PaRTiNg iS suCh sWeeT soRrOWWWWW...
[Eventually, the high-pitched screams stop. Baron Von Rotten disappears from sight, dissolved by his own concoction.
Almost as if on cue, the doors in the back of the room open, releasing an incredible amount of daylight into the room. The sounds of traffic spill into the courtroom. Perhaps you can go investigate the outside world...later. Right now, regrouping and calming down after such intensity seems like a good option.]
