[It's been one whole week, and no one has died yet. For someone who seemed so sure that someone would die, it seems as if The Narrator was wrong about anyone killing another person. But after awhile, the hotel might seem pretty dull. There is only so much to do in here, and if you don't enjoy books and old board games, it's hard to keep you entertained unless you like marathons of Muppet Treasure Island.

But you can keep this up, right?

MOTIVE: Walking Distance

I require your attendance in the library promptly.

[The Narrator is already in the library when the guests come down to see what’s going on.his expression is neutral as he speaks.]

I see most of you have adjusted to living into this hotel quite nicely. But this situation is very serious, even if some of you only think this is all just a game to make fun of.

[A very, very pointed glare at Tadashi.]

Because of this, I have been told that the deal needs to sweetened, and encourage those who would otherwise be unwilling to end the life of a fellow guest.

[He clears his throat.]

Every one of you here has had something bad happen to you at some point. Something you regret. Something you would do anything to make right. So, a deal has been made. Kill one of the guests by Friday, and you will get the exclusive opportunity to change one thing about your past. The change can be as small as asking your crush out or as big as saving your hometown. The possibilities of what we can fix about your life are truly unlimited.

You have until Friday to decide if taking the deal is worth it.

[And with that, he vanishes out of sight.]

[well, everyone's been getting such exciting things from the penny press, so Marnie's decided to spend her morning trying to get something fun from it. most of it's pretty boring-- a thimble, some papers, a useless book-- but at least the box she's gotten is pretty! and such an interesting latch... she opens the box to see what it looks like inside--

[As luck would have it, Donald had also gone back to the penny press- last time it gave him something of his, so maybe he'd have the same luck again? Unfortunately, this time it didn't give him anything special. Some junk food and a fork to eat it with, presumably, and a tacky pen that's shaped like a carrot. Nothing remotely useful.

He glances over when he hears Marnie's displeasure.]

Anything interesting in there, or are you just as disappointed as I am?

holds up an actual literal heart.]

[hm! Cool! he's never going to use the penny press ever again]

That's- that's not a person heart, is it?!

[he is trying So hard to keep his composure here. it's only sort of working but at least he's not getting nauseous over it, so he thinks he's doing a Pretty Good Job.]

[ There is. So little. To do. At least no one's dead yet? But staying on guard while simultaneously being in such a boring place is havoc for Thalia, honestly. So. Might as well check out that penny press thing? People have said they've got some cool things, so away she goes. Not necessarily a bad bunch, definitely nothing of hers, but-

Thalia stares at one of the prizes she receives and then just snorts and shakes her head and yells at the ceiling: ] Really?! A typewriter? For the dyslexic girl? Real funny, haunted hotel! Reeeeal funny!

[ Honestly she doesn't seem mad about it, just a little incredulous.

Or, if you don't want to run into her right when this lovely moment of restraint happens, she'll be in the dining hall, with the things laid out, looking for whoever might own them. Flagging you down, potentially. ]

I don't know! Is there a difference between people hearts and not-people hearts-- does it even matter, it's still someone's heart! You need those to live!

[theduck]

Well, you know, some people eat cow hearts and stuff-

[that... might be splitting hairs a bit, but he digresses]

At least it's in a box. It could've just dropped out as-is!

[Amanda is just passing by when she stops dead, her gaze fixed on the diary.]

Where did you get that?

Yeah, you eat them, not put them in a fancy box and give them out as arcade prizes!

[SIGHS] Yeah, but it's a cool box! I wanted to, I don't know... use it for costume jewelry or something. I can't put things in a box a heart was in!

[theduck]

Maybe they were out of plates. And you could always just wash the box... unless you don't have the heart to do it.

We're all going to die here anyways!

[listen he's already gone through the other stages of grief. that, or this is just a drawn-out panic attack? both are likely]

Penny press. Don't ask me how it came out of it, I don't really get it. ...Is it yours?

[she's like a weird mixture of concern and anger rn]

Look, we've gone a whole week without killing anyone! Seven whole days! We just need to keep doing those seven days over and over until we find our way out, okay? It's not that hard!

[theduck]

Not that hard? People are already getting stir-crazy! How many rewatches of that weird puppet pirate movie do you think someone can take?

[he doesn't WANT to think that anyone would actually kill someone- it seems like most of them are at least acquaintances, or have some sort of pact going on- but he's not going to pretend that he isn't already nervous about the possibility.]

If we've gone a whole week without finding any clue on how to get out of here, do you really think another week would make any difference?

Yeah, I do! Rome wasn't built in a day, you know! It was built in lots of days! We just need to get creative with distractions...

[she's doing this literally still holding what for all she knows could be a human heart in her hands.]

Besides, if this really is another dimension, it's not like time means anything! We could have hundreds of years to figure it out before anything bad happens! [SHE FINDS THIS COMFORTING]

Hundreds of years?! I don't know about you, but I can't be stuck here for that long! What if something's happening in my dimension? The boys might need me!

[although if he was here for a hundred years maybe he'd have time to get good at chess???]
