Week 5

[Five deaths in one week, and almost half of the guests have died now. The Narrator is now claiming that the man who's trying to save all the guests is a cold-hearted killer, and he doesn't seem to be lying about this. But on the other hand, that doesn't explain why he continues to do any of this, or if he's even an entirely good guy here.

Whether you like it or not, tension is becoming unusually high in this hotel now.

But hey, at least you get a nice new floor to tide you over.

13 guests remain]

Crafts room

[personal profile] theduck 2017-11-03 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Donald honestly just hasn't bothered to check out the crafts room at all until now, so that's all he really means to do when he peeks through the doorway. He wasn't exactly expecting to see Oswald working on something in here, but... well, he's pretty bad at minding his own business. So. He kind of sidles up to look over Oswald's shoulder at the diagram he's working on-- looks like a map, maybe? All of the names written on it are pretty strange, but one stands out.]

Ostown? You got a town named after you, or is that some other Oswald?
forgottenfounder: (Whoa!)

[As Oswald was so focused on his work, he didn't even notice as Donald sidled up behind him and watched him toil away at his map.

So, he's totally jumping out of his skin.
]

Yipe! [He whips around.] Donald? Wha... when did you get here?

[On one hand he should've expected a reaction like that, but on the other... yeah, he totally wasn't. Oswald jumping is enough to get Donald to jump, too, raising his hands innocently after a brief moment of panic.]

Just barely! Maybe a minute ago! Or two minutes ago. I was just going to check out the room, that's all. Sorry if I interrupted.

You...! Ngh...

[Well, now that he's actually gotten the chance to collect himself, and stop his heart from exploding, Oswald can look Donald in the eyes now. At least this isn't anything serious.]

No, it's fine, you didn't know, I get it. [He shakes his head.] I was just... putting the finishing touches on this map of Wasteland.

So it is a map. What’re you making it for?

[...not-so subtly attempting to peer past Oswald to glance at it again.]

Wasteland, huh? Not the most flattering name for a place.

[personal profile] forgottenfounder 2017-11-06 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's a map of my home. And it's not like I was the one that named it. [Please direct all complaints to Yen Sid.]

...I was making it for Thalia, she wanted me to explain all the parts of Wasteland to her.

[...For what it's worth, he'll let Donald easily get a look at it.]

[why would you let a man who’s name is disney spelled backwards name anything]

Your home? Looks... nice. [Okay, so some of the locations sound a little gloomy from their names, but every city has its flaws.] The Rainbow Caverns— is that name literal? That sounds like something Scrooge would love to see.

[The next bit gives him pause, though. He’s not great at the whole comforting thing but... he’ll Attempt.]

...I’m sorry, Oswald. But, you know, she could still be watching us from... wherever. [She was a demigod— maybe she was turned into a constellation, though he’s not sure that that’s a real thing or just a myth. He’d never gotten to ask all the questions he had.] And I bet she’d really love to see it.

[Because it's either that or you go complain to Warren Spector, and he'll just make you sad.]

Yeah, it... looks a lot better now then it did a while ago. [Honestly though, the Wasteland from a few decades ago looks as different from the current one as night and day.

...Donald. You're looking at a guy who's gone through Night on Bald Mountain. Still, his attempt does earn a small smile.
]

Thanks Donald. I kind of hope that too. I was working on it last week. [And, well, he almost got it done.] I think Scrooge would like the Rainbow Caverns, it's the place that supplies the whole of Wasteland with power and paint.

Well, hey, that's something, right? I don't think Duckburg's changed at all since Scrooge got his hands all over it. Probably nice to see things improving.

Paint and thinner. [He vaguely points over at the Thinner Sea on the map.] What's that about? You guys just really big into art or something?
forgottenfounder: (So?)

[personal profile] forgottenfounder 2017-11-06 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
A little, but that's not all there it to it. You see, paint and thinner sort of make up everything in our world.

Well, except for us, of course. And anything that's inert.

[personal profile] theduck 2017-11-06 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything? Doesn't that get messy? I dunno how paint works in your world, but in mine it's not exactly easy to work with, let alone build with.
forgottenfounder: (Stars)

[personal profile] forgottenfounder 2017-11-08 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of. It's a bit hard to explain to someone who's never seen it. [And he really never thought he'd have to explain it to Donald, or Mickey, for that matter. At least Mickey could learn on his own.]

Not everything's made of paint. There's other things, like machines and other inert materials. It's just... Paint is kind of magic where I'm from.
theduck: (02)

[personal profile] theduck 2017-11-08 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Guess I should be used to magic being the explanation for everything by now, huh?

Your world sounds a lot more interesting than mine. I guess we've got magic, too, but nothing like magic paint... er, not that I know of.
