Week 6

[Another week another set of bodies, and now, the guests aren't the only ones dying in this hotel. At this point it seems as though something is attacking the nonguests of this hotel. What's attacking them, however, no one seems to know. But surely you can all find out before more people die, right?

No new floors open up this week, but people will find on Sunday that the locked door on the first floor is now unlocked. It's a good time as any to see what's behind it.

[turns out even having a chipmunk curled up next to you can't stop screaming nightmares of fire and death. that's fun. she's glad to have scientifically proven this important fact.

she checks on Flotsam and Jetsam multiple times during the day, bringing them extra food to try to cheer them up a bit. so she might be seen just carting around raw meat at various times of the day.

she spends part of the day in the burnt chapel, just silently sitting on the floor with her chin resting on her hands. the bodies might be gone, but she can't seem to make herself forget about it.]

... Grandma. I don't know what to do. Help me.

Are you ok?

[It's a dumb question; he knows she isn't. None of them are. But Chip...Chip feels the need to ask it, anyway, coming up to stand by her]

I'm fine. It's just, you know...

[a long pause]

Chip, did I kill them?

[nocasetoobig]

You mean the people we voted for?

[hallotween]

[shakes head, gestures at their burned surroundings.]

I was the one who lit the candle, knowing that without Rod around, they'd be trapped here with us. If they hadn't been here, they wouldn't have died so horribly...

[Hoo boy. Chip shakes his head at that, making a face]

No way! Someone had to light the fire, didn't they?

There wouldn't have been any witches for the witch-burner to burn if they hadn't been here! Everybody told me not to, but I just did it anyway...

[slumps] I keep writing checks my butt can't cash. And now three awful but blameless people are just ashes on the floor. Grandma Aggie would be ashamed if she saw how badly I'd messed things up here...

Hey! [He whaps her leg lightly with a paw] We all make mistakes, but that doesn't mean we're responsible for that!

[Just gonna scurry around to the front, now]

Didn't they say they could get out of here at any time?

That was clearly a lie. They probably just didn't want to admit it. Pride is kind of a Thing for witches, if you haven't caught on yet.

Maybe, but that doesn't mean that it should get you killed!

[HE MAY HAVE NOTICED but also noticed that Ursula gave it to her. He's...not about to bring it up. Not right now.]

Just look at Kylo- he was so mad, he didn't let things take care of themselves. If he'd just have waited-! I don't blame him, you saw how mad I was, but I'd probably have been smooshed if you hadn't stopped me!

The only one we need to get mad at is whoever brought us all here. And when we get out, we'll show them, right before we go rescue our friends!

[You look contemplative, Marnie. Virgil isn't sure about what because there are like six different possibilities, but yeah. If you want to talk, he's willing to listen]

I mean, nothing is going to do that right now, but talking about things is definitely a behavior we want to encourage. Not talking tends to end up with bodies on the floor.

[pause. doodling with her finger in the soot.]

They were evil, right? I mean, it's not like witches have to eat kids to live or anything. That would be stupid. They chose to be like that... Cromwells don't do that kind of magic, not nowadays.

Of course they were evil. You don't get to eat children and consider yourself a good person. The scary part is that I'm sure they weren't ashamed at all.

[Villains who do their villainy openly and are proud of that are the worst]

Does them being evil make what happened okay? I mean, death is never okay, especially when it's like that, but... They wouldn't have met a good end even if I hadn't summoned them, right? It would just be delaying the inevitable. Right?

[just. slight desperation in her voice.]

Of course not! They were bad people but they...they didn't deserve to die.

[All these innocent people dying, and the few guilty ones...there's no reason for any of them to have died. Even the worst culprits here didn't deserve their deaths]

I suppose they wouldn't have been okay even if you hadn't summoned them again. They were out there in the Twilight Zone that's outside, and that was the Narrator guy's fault, not yours.

[So...yeah, maybe bringing them here again just sped up their deaths]

So, it's not too bad that I'm responsible for them dying.

[so this is where we are right now.]

But you're not even responsible for them dying. If you hadn't done it, someone else would have lighted up the candle -- someone who didn't know it'd bring a bunch of witches. Don't blame yourself, Marnie.

[hallotween]

[sighs] I wish we'd forced them to come with us to the trial. Who could've known, and if...

No, it's stupid. Forget I said anything.

They would have escaped from the trial room anyway. It's not like they were participants here, they were just...

[Virgil sighs, pressing a hand against his face. He doesn't really understand why Marnie feels guilty about the witches, but seeing her like that is rather depressing]

Come on, get up, Marnie. Thinking about this can't be good for you.

[darnsitall]

[Sally spots Marnie during one of her meat runs.]

Are you sure you don't want to cook that first?

[She's still learning about the eating habits of humans but she's pretty sure raw meat makes them die.]

[hallotween]

-- Oh, no! This isn't for me! [grins sheepishly] I have to take care of Flotsam and Jetsam, remember? I'm just trying to figure out what sort of things they like best.

[Lightbulb!]

Her eels! Oh no, they're all alone now, aren't they?

[hallotween]

I'm worried about leaving them in the pool at nights, 'cause what if the witch-burner learns that they're familiars, but... I don't really have anywhere else for them to go. I don't think they'd appreciate a bucket or a bathtub very much.

[darnsitall]

If they're in the pool, though, then a witch burner couldn't burn them!

[She's helping?]
