Week 1

[Well that was a busy day, huh? But despite all that, a good majority of you are reasonable people, and are smart enough to find an escape without resorting to deadly violence. Maybe if you put your heads together, you'll find a way to get out of here! After all, the host is practically in shambles already, what can he do?

The whole first floor of the manor is open for your leasure now, with the only change being that there's now a set of rules in the foyer hanging on the wall.

Let the games begin.]

[MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY]

Ooh, well, my friend Tiana runs a great restaurant down in New Orleans, and it's one of her signature desserts! I mean, it's pretty simple, but they're just so delicious!

I think some people down there come from France or somethin'--Cajun, y'know.

[He tilts his head, looking down at Remy.] Do you need a hand with anythin'?

Then I'll make sure it's as good as what you know in another great restaurant!

I think I can handle this myself, this should be easy-- [He was already bringing out the bowl and the whisk, but an idea occurrs to him]

Bring me fruit! Anything's fine as long as it's sweet! Wait, peaches and something else!

[He's already getting excited about the possibilities! While Louis goes for what Rémy requested, he brings most of the ingredients and pours the necessary stuff for the dough, managing to stand on a side of the bowl while using the whisk. This is going to be good, he's sure of it!]

Oh! Alright, gimme a sec!

[He scrambles to the pantry to take out a few canned peaches. Probably not as good as fresh ones, but still good enough. He then pauses for a second, trying to decide what other fruit to grab. Well, maybe blackberries? He grabs a can of those, as well.

Careful not to taint the fruit inside, Louis positions the can under his teeth and bites a few holes in the lid. He then uses a claw to pry them open.]

Here you go! No need for a can opener when I'm around.

That's convenient!

[It's quicker than how Rémy would do it by biting the lid, at least. He gets the fruits out of the cans, and chops them into pieces, mixing with the batter. For someone of his size, he sure can use the knife well]

Guess I'll be the chef around here until we get out! Trust me, you all will always get the best I can do, you'll see!

[He sounds rather confident, heating up the oil and pouring bits of the dough, waiting until they are nicely shaped and cooked. Getting the beignets out of the pan gives him a bit of trouble, but he has enough practice to not screw up. Some powdered sugar on top and...]

This looks good! Here, give it a try. It's at the perfect point of sweetness, and blackberries with the peaches is a daring complement! Come on, give it a try!

[These are pretty damn good beignets, that's for sure]

[Watching a rat cook is an...interesting experience, but hey, it's an enlightening one. He follows Remy's movements, fascinated.]

Dang, you're pretty pro, ain't ya? Where'd you learn to do all this stuff?

[He picks up a beignet between two claws and bites into it and now there's powdered sugar everywhere. But damn does that taste good! He licks the sugar off of his claws and grins.]

Wow! Now that's a beignet!

[Apparently praising his cooking is a quick way to being liked by Rémy. Nothing like feeding his well-deserved ego!]

I had to teach myself! Watching the TV, hiding in a real kitchen and seeing what they do...

[...controlling a man like a puppet and also maybe-hallucinating-maybe-not a deceased chef...]

Stuff like that! It's not like anyone was interested in teaching a rat how to cook!

Oh! That's real neat! I'm self-taught, too--taught myself how to play trumpet from listenin' and watchin' the riverboats go by. Wish I could show you, but, um...guess I lost if when we got kidnapped.

[It's ok. He's okay for now. Maybe give it a few days before he actually starts losing his mind about it.]

Man, there really should be a better way for people to encourage the artistic pursuits of animals. Hope you don't mind me askin', but what's the teevee?

[listen motion pictures are barely coming out during his time period he doesn't know anything about the modern world]

[Musician gator, that's something Rémy wishes he could see by himself, but that's just...not going to happen, apparently. Hey, maybe if you survive long enough you'll find a trumpet somewhere, Louis]

How did you get a trumpet, anyway? Did you find it somewhere?

[Oh boy, how to explain it...Rémy scratches behind his ear, trying to find the right words]

It's like a box filled with...moving pictures? It's something like that, I don't know how it works, it just moves and shows people.

[personal profile] bayoublues 2018-01-10 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, um...funny story, actually. I was swimmin' next to a river boat, tryin' to listen to the music when one of the musicians spotted me. He didn't have a gun on him, so he threw his trumpet in a fit of panic. I got him to thank for gettin' me started, actually.

...After that, everyone started shootin' so I swam off as quick as I could.

[Guns are...not fun. Especially in the American South.]

Oh! I know what moving pictures are--the ones they show in nickelodeons, right? Never been to one, myself, but they sound real interesting! Didn't know you could learn cooking from those.

[personal profile] bestchefinparis 2018-01-10 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Rémy visibly shudders. Guns are never fun, that's for sure]

Why do humans have to shoot everything they don't want around them?

[There's a lot to be admired about humans, but that definitely isn't one of those things to be admired]

I have no idea what a nickelodeon is, but I suppose it's something like that! There's a lot of stuff in those boxes, it's like...I don't know how they work, but it just does! Humans can do a lot of amazing stuff when they get their minds into it!

[personal profile] bayoublues 2018-01-10 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno! Like, y'don't have to go to those lengths to make it clear someone ain't welcome. Guess it makes 'em feel powerful--you know how humans are.

Woah.....now that's somethin', alright. If only humans devoted more resources to stuff like this than...well, y'know. Killin' things.

[personal profile] bestchefinparis 2018-01-11 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's just a matter of knowing the right humans. You have your human friends, I also have my human friends, we know it's possible!

[Rémy and Louis are extremely lucky, all things considered]
