[Well that was a busy day, huh? But despite all that, a good majority of you are reasonable people, and are smart enough to find an escape without resorting to deadly violence. Maybe if you put your heads together, you'll find a way to get out of here! After all, the host is practically in shambles already, what can he do?

The whole first floor of the manor is open for your leasure now, with the only change being that there's now a set of rules in the foyer hanging on the wall.

[...hm. He's pretty sure kids shouldn't gamble. On the other hand, an adult is offering, so it should be fine, right?] Okay...I'm not gonna owe you money, right? Since I'm a beginner? [He tries to smile innocently.]

[A beat, while he starts shuffling the cards with intent.]

Now if I thought you had any dough to bet, that'd be different.

[Stan.]

Well, um, I'm glad I don't, then? [He watches the shuffling with some fascination.] So...how does this game work?

[stanbyme]

[Stan sets the deck on the table and cuts it in front of the kid.]

The goal is to get 21. Each number card is worth what it says on the card. Face cards are worth ten points, and aces are worth eleven.

[He deals out two cards in front of the kid, the five of clubs and the 8 of spades. Then he deals out two cards to himself, one facedown and the 10 of hearts face up.]

Normally you put your bet in before the deal, but since I'm teachin' ya this time I'll let it slide.

What you can do now is either Hit, where you get another card to try to get closer to 21, or Stand, where you think you've got me beat or just about any card would tip you over.

{Hmm...he rubs his chin as he thinks. 5+8=13, he knows that much. So if he gets anything above 8, it's bad...but 8 is pretty high, right?]

Okay, I think I'll...Hit first?

[stanbyme]

Alright... [He draws a card and puts it in front of him.

Six of diamonds.]

There you go kid, not bad. Now I've gotta stand 'cause the dealer's rule is to stand on 17 or higher. So now you get to pick if you're gonna stand or hit.

[Okay, that's pretty close...too close for anything else, probably.] I'll...I'll stand too!

[stanbyme]

Good call. Now I gotta show you my card, and we'll see who's got the higher one.

[He flips over the face down card on his side, revealing... The Jack of Diamonds.]

Ooh, looks like I got 20, so that time I had the winning hand.

Pretty easy, huh?

[used_realtears]

[Noby lets out a small "aw" at his luck, but nods.] Yeah, you just need to add numbers together and make one kind of choice! Even I can do that much!

[stanbyme]

See, there ya go!

[He swipes the cards over into a discard pile.]

Wanna give it another try?

You know what? Sure! [It's actually perfectly understandable for him!]

[stanbyme]

Alright!

[Stan's face-up card is the Jack of Hearts. Noby gets the Five and Nine of Diamonds.]

Hit or stand, kid.

[used_realtears]

[Well, that's one higher...but if he'd been one higher before, he'd have won, right? Or at least tied.] Oooh, I pick hit again!

[stanbyme]

[Queen of Clubs!]

Ouch! See that's the danger, if you go over 21 you lose automatically.

Awwww... [He looks pretty disappointed. That really was unlucky for him, wasn't it?] My luck with cards really is bad...

[stanbyme]

Hey, it's okay, it's just cards. Nothin' to beat yourself up over.

[He puts the cards in the discard, and then puts the deck down on the table.]

How 'bout you deal one.

Okay... [He nods a little, before dealing Stan two cards-the Queen of Spades and Four of Hearts. He deals himself two cards as well, his face-up one being the Eight of Spades. He holds up the deck and tries to mimic Stan's grin and tone.] So...Stay or Hit?
