Week 1

[Well that was a busy day, huh? But despite all that, a good majority of you are reasonable people, and are smart enough to find an escape without resorting to deadly violence. Maybe if you put your heads together, you'll find a way to get out of here! After all, the host is practically in shambles already, what can he do?

The whole first floor of the manor is open for your leasure now, with the only change being that there's now a set of rules in the foyer hanging on the wall.

And painting?

[Drawing skills are a plus, but you don't have to be able to draw to paint. Besides, Neku isn't the greatest at painting either, but there's no harm in trying.]

I've...never tried, I guess? I don't have paint at home. [He seems to perk up a bit at the realization.]

Here, go ahead.

[He'll hand Noby a bowl of paint with a spoon in it.]

Pick a door, or a wall or anything. You have to use your hands or the spoon, since I couldn't find any paintbrushes.

Hmm... [He takes a look around, then grabs a blob of blue paint and starts smearing it on the wall in a vaguely circular shape.] Like this?

Basically. Ever hear of abstract art?

I think? It's the kind that's just random shapes and stuff that don't look like anything, right? [He's not that into non-representative art, honestly.]

More like don't represent anything. What they look like depends on who's looking at it. You make up your own meaning for a piece.

Huh...like...this? [He starts adding an orange block that looms in the background, as well as a green triangle hanging off to the side. He then starts trying to paint a pink star with somewhat more care than he's afforded the other shapes, tongue sticking out and everything.]

[Honestly, it's sort of ugly, with the pink and the orange, but Noby's trying and he'll just keep that opinion to himself.]

Something like that, yeah.

...Pink and orange don't go well together.

...oh. [He looks kind of upset.] I was...trying to make it look like my friends. That's...what they wear. The colors, I mean.

[Okay, scratch that, he tried to keep his opinion to himself.]

Oh...um, sorry about that.

[Still kind of ugly.]

...Hm. Um...what're your friends like? Besides their colors?

Oh! Um...Big G is really strong and sometimes he's a bully, but he really cares about his little sister and he can be nice at times. [He gestures to the large orange rectangle.] And Sneech likes to brag a lot about being rich and having cool stuff, but he's nice when he's willing to share it, plus he does care about his pets. [He points at the green triangle.] Doraemon's annoying sometimes...but he came all the way from the future to try and help me, plus he lets me borrow his gadgets a lot! [The blue circle.] And Sue... [He gets a dreamy look in his eyes.] ...she's so smart, and pretty, and kind! She's the best! [The pink star, of course.]

[Big G sounds a little bit like Beat...only with an orange association instead of yellow or black. Sneech is a weird-sounding name, and Neku is most definitely keeping that to himself. Sue is...clearly someone Noby likes. Huh.]

Doraemon...that's your grandson?

[The one mentioned in Noby's bio?]

Oh, no! My grandson's name is Toby! He's a good boy, I guess-he brought Doraemon from the future to help me out, since he can't stay around. Doraemon's a robot cat, and he has all kinds of gadgets for that!

[Noby, Toby...this family has some original naming schemes.]

[He's pretty sure he's seen that in a television show at some point.]

[I mean is it better or worse than Nobi__ for every name.]

Yeah, I guess it is a little weird...but it's pretty normal for me, now. I guess it's pretty surprising to most people here.

[Well, 'nobi' can be read as 'growth' or 'progress', so it might be a good thing to keep in the family.]

I'm becoming less and less surprised by anything that happens lately. Not everything, but after seeing some of the people here--hell, being here--just rolling with the weird things seems like a good idea.

A robot cat sounds pretty cool, too.

Yeah, a lot of this weird stuff is at least stuff I've heard about. So it's not too weird to find out they're real, I guess.

And Doraemon is pretty cool! When he's not acting bossy, at least. His gadgets are really cool, and he's usually real happy to share them!

What kinds of gadgets does he have?

Oh, all kinds of stuff! There's the Air Cannon, the Small Light, the Memory Bread, Pet Polish... [He trails off as he thinks about them.] Some of them work better than others. [Read: He used some more responsibly than others.]

Hold on...'Pet Polish'?

Yeah, it...kind of makes rocks come alive and act like dogs if you rub it on them? Because Mom said I couldn't have a real dog.

I suppose you wouldn't have to feed a dog-rock, or take it for walks...

Well, Rocky still eats sand and drinks water, but he doesn't need to eat as much because he's so small! Plus taking him for walks is fun anyways. No other dog messes with him!

How does it eat sand? Or drink?

[Does it absorb the water? Rocks do that, that sort of makes sense, but eating sand?]

I wouldn't mess with a rock that barked at me either.
