[Well that was a busy day, huh? But despite all that, a good majority of you are reasonable people, and are smart enough to find an escape without resorting to deadly violence. Maybe if you put your heads together, you'll find a way to get out of here! After all, the host is practically in shambles already, what can he do?

The whole first floor of the manor is open for your leasure now, with the only change being that there's now a set of rules in the foyer hanging on the wall.

....you're a jazz musician?

[If it sounds like he's incredulous it's because he's a little incredulous. How.. how do you play instruments you're an alligator.]

Yes! I taught myself how to play the trumpet by listenin' in on riverboat bands and such. Also accidentally acquired my trumpet that way. But it seems to have been missin' ever since I got here....

[He peers down at the child.] Why do you wanna know?

'Cause where I come from, reptiles aren't really known to play jazz.

[It's both weird and also kind of cool not gonna lie.]

Well, most people haven't met a trumpet-playin' alligator before. But now you can say you have!

What about you? What do you do for a living?

[Kids have jobs, right?]

[That gets Marco to perk up, and he puffs out his chest all hero-like.]

I'm Marco Diaz! Esteemed squire to the princess Star Butterfly of Mewni!

[It's kind of a dumb title since princesses don't even have squires but it's fine.]

It's a very important duty.

Oh! Well, forgive me, Mr. Diaz, I believe I'm in the presence of near-royalty.

[He does a little bow for him--not in a mocking way, mind you.]

Y'know, I happen to be acquainted to a real live prince and princess, but I've never heard of the country of Mewni. What kind of duties does a squire have?

[Sincerity or not, that has Marco raise a suspicious eyebrow because he's more used to being patronized than actually complimented.]

Weeell, usually a squire would be, like, an apprentice for a knight. You know, go around doing knightly duties and learning the tactics and swordsmanship from their trusted knight?

[Marco's suspicion lowers as he lets out a dreamy sigh, like a fanboy talking about his favourite pop-star.]

Since I'm the princess' squire, it's my duty to protect and party with her. So I'm basically the most important squire in the kingdom. No big deal or anything.

[bayoublues]

Woah! That's awesome, man! Personally, I don't get the appeal of adventure, but to each his own. I'm happy just layin' back and relaxin' with the sound of music.

[He catches onto Marco's tone and tilts his head, a smirk upon his face.]

This princess...she your friend?

[Louis you are a patient soul to be putting up with this kid basically stroking his own ego here.]

Well yeah, of course! Star and I are best friends!

[Marco practically lights up just mentioning her name.]

You'll probably get to meet her eventually, when she figures out where the heck I am.

[listen.....he knows next to nothing about royalty so it sounds important enough]

Sure is nice to be workin' with someone you're friends with--makes the job ten times more fun!

I can't wait to meet her! Er, um. If we ever get outta here. Maybe you could also meet my friends, Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana? They own a real nice restaurant in New Orleans you should check out sometime. They serve beignets, jambalaya, étouffée...ooh, got some real good gumbo, too, and....

[He seems to be getting off track a little. Lost in the sauce.]

Oh man, I love New Orleans! I mean, I haven't actually been there but I've seen movies that were shot there and it looks great!

[That's kind of the same as visiting, right?]

It. Is. INCREDIBLE. Oh my God you absolutely HAVE to go some day! Especially during Mardi Gras! During the festival every single street, corner, and house is alive, man!

If you ever do visit, I'll hook you up with some food from the kitchen! Tiana makes the best food in the world.

[Marco looks excited now... why hasn't he thought to use his interdimentional portal scissors to visit other states before?]

California can get preeeetty crazy when it comes to Mardi Gras, though. I dunno if New Orleans can really top it.

[california is in the west, right? yeah, that's probably right.]

I'll bet California doesn't have any jazz-playing alligators like me. And what's Mardi Gras without some good soul food? S'called "Fat Tuesday" for a reason, y'know!

Those are some true statements, my friend.

[Marco nods solemnly.]

I'm definitely gonna drag Star to Louisiana when Mardi Gras comes around again.

[Solemn nod solidarity]

You tell me when you're comin' down--I'll make sure you guys have a good and proper celebration!

What do they have out there in California, anyways? Hollywood? What do the stars over there do for fun? [Wait.] Stars as in celebrities, not your friend. But I guess it'd be cool to find out what you guys like to do, too.

[That Star comment gets a laugh out of Marco, and he shakes his head.]

I dunno what stars do for fun since I don't live in Hollywood... sit around in their giant houses, I guess?

But Star and I do all kinds of things! We used to fight monsters all the time, but now we're trying to work on making Mewni a place where Mewmans and Monsters can live together in peace and harmony.

It's.... a lot harder than we thought it'd be, h-heheh.

Maybe they sip expensive wine while complaining about their landscapes.

[Louis furrows his brow and tilts his head.]

That's wild. You guys much be, like...heros or somethin'. If you want my advice, nothin' brings people together like a good tune. Take it from me--I met my best friends that way! Though, I guess in your case, it might be a bit more complicated than that.

O-oh, I don't know if I'd call us heroes... I mean, it's all basically Star's idea, anyway. I'm just along for the ride.

[The teen reaches up to run a hand through his hair, with a little bit of a sheepish laugh.]

Yeah, I don't know if music is gonna fix years and years of ignorance and bigotry... but hey! Anything's worth a shot at this point.

So...you're her emotional support hero?

Oh. Yeah, that's different then. You need your population ed-u-ca-ted. Maybe handin' out a few informational pamphlets or doin' a positive press release could help. That's what my friends did when I started playin' at the restaurant.

[turns out people tend to be wary when alligators are around their food. who knew?]

Hmmm.... you know, that might actually work.

[Star can use magic.. so maybe she can magic up a billboard in the sky or something.]

Our first plan was to have a party between the youth of Mewmans and Monsters alike but it... diiiidn't go quite as planned.

Huh. Whatever happened to 'the children are our future' and all that?

From what I'm hearin', there's a lot of mutual distrust goin' on here. You gotta give 'em a reason for them to like at least one person. If they like one, they should start likin' more of 'em, and so on and so forth.
