Week 1

[Now that the Narrator is done explaining the situation, you all have time to assess the situation and maybe even work together to find a way out. After all, clearly the Narrator is being over dramatic and it can't be that hard to escape out of here without murdering everyone, right?

But, with the doors outside indeed locked and all the windows unbreakable, it might not be a bad idea to explore the hotel, either for alternative methods of escape or to relieve boredom. Your Narrator is also now available for private chat in case you want to interrogate him or throw more stuff at his face.

If the locked doors aren't bad enough, when everyone goes back to the lobby, they'll notice a plaque on the front desk. If you thought your Narrator wasn't serious before, this is damning evidence to the contrary.

Either way, we really do hope you enjoy your stay in this hotel.]

Sure am. Why?

[He's more familiar with Selene than with Artemis, for reasons he doesn't want to think about, but knows more than enough about mythology as a whole at this point.]

Well, I'm her lieutenant. Myself and the other hunters travel across the country, hunting monsters that are dangerous to demigods and...doing her bidding in other ways. You see a lot in that line of duty.

Demigods, huh?

[This is starting to sound kinda familiar. Hadn't Reyna said something about this earlier?]

So, uh, how does that work, exactly? Becoming the lieutenant of a Greek god.

[Is this, like, a cult thing he doesn't understand. It sounds like she's being super literal, though.]

Most don't take half-bloods or mortals as lieutenants, but Lady Artemis is an exception. She keeps an eye on girls with potential, or ones that want to escape circumstances, and offers them the position of being one of her immortal hunters.

[ She's saying all of this rather matter-of-fact, while she looks through the coat check. ]

For me, it was a mix of...necessity and skill. In the end, it was to stop a terrible fate, but also because I was the best one for the job. Lady Artemis had her eye on me for...quite some time.

...Wait, are you being serious? You're telling me you've met a goddess? Have you talked to a goddess?

[sounds fake but okay? it really doesn't seem like she's joking here.]

So what, you go around in the woods hunting deer or something, is that how it works?

Yeah? Like, not deer, those are one of her sacred animals, but- [ She pauses and then just. ] You...read my bio-thing, right? I thought all the rest of you just did that- I'm a demigod. Daughter of Zeus? It's not...that far-fetched that I'd talk to one of the gods.

[ ...a beat. ]

Still unlikely, given their availability, but Lady Artemis is...a special sort of goddess.

I... didn't think it was serious. I thought it was a metaphor.

[Not sure what kind of metaphor but he was just trying to come up with literally any other explanation for it aside from, y'know, an actual reality.]

...So. Zeus. I guess that makes you like Heracles or something, right?

[Also isn't that super dangerous? He's read enough myths in his time to know that situations like those don't work out incredibly well most times.]

[ Hahaha super dangerous, yes, that's a way to put it-

Thalia makes a face like she's smelled something disgusting at the mention of Heracles, however. ]

Ugh, that guy. I guess, but I don't like to remember I'm related to him. Pro-tip, all his publicity is wrong, he is a total pig-headed jerk.

Wait, seriously?

[well now he just wants to hear all the gossip]

I guess it's not all true to the stories and stuff, then.

There's a basis of truth, but his are especially biased. Selfish, bitter, and self-centered, that's Heracles- oh, sorry, he likes his brand name, Hercules.

[ She rolls her eyes. She'd heard a few stories, after the war against Gaea. ]

He was better before he became a god, but the guy's always been short-sighted. Trying to save the world? Oh no, doesn't matter. The goddess I hate sent you, so you have to do an impossibly hard quest, or I'll kill you and your friends! Ugh, that guy's the worst.

Uh-huh. Right. Yeah, sounds like he's the worst.

[he's just nodding along and agreeing. this seems like a personal grudge of some kind??? he'll just let her vent

but also this is kind of neat, where else would he get to hear Cosmic Gossip™]

Is the whole family that bad?

I mean...

[ She hesitates. Salting about gods is fun and all, but. At the same time. ]

There's bad eggs in every basket? If you're talking about the extended family, there's a few I'd drop like a hot bag of rocks, but most demigods are my friends and some of them my comrades, and...Lady Artemis and some of the others are considerate.

As for kids of Zeus? There aren't really a lot of those around, so it's even harder to say. Of the ones that aren't gods, I haven't met a lot. ...My own little brother's cool, though.

[ And just like that her face softens intensely. ]

[honestly, with an extended family of that scale, he can't stay he's entirely surprised by the answer.]

You've got a brother?

[from the look on her face, it seems like they're close. he knows what it's like to miss your sibling, so he's a lot more careful when he poses the next question. talking about it might help? he's not good at this sort of thing]

What's he like?

Amazing. His name's Jason, and...you know, until recently I hadn't seen him in...a long time. Many, many years. But the fates worked in our favor, for once and...we were reunited.

[ It's a good thing to ask, it seems! Thalia seems perfectly at peace talking about her brother. ]

He's... Gosh, he's such a leader, but in a personal way. Always trying to make people feel comfortable or understood. Just a...good guy, you know? I'm so glad to see the wonderful young man he's grown into.

He sounds like a great kid. I'm glad you two were reunited. It's... good to have a sibling around to watch your back, sometimes.

[he almost says something along the lines of 'hope you get to see him again' but. Sometimes he's good at filtering the words that come out of his mouth, so he just thinks it instead.]

[ A small closed-mouth laugh warms her. ]

Sure is. What about you? Got any siblings of your own?

[his expression fades into a sort of grimace.]

I, uh... yeah. A twin, actually. Her name's Della. She and I were adventuring partners back when we still worked with our Uncle Scrooge.

Adventurers, really? That's pretty cool, a duck of many traits. Do you two still go out? See he world, sometimes?

[ She catches that look, so her words are...careful, in a way. ]

Yeah, Scrooge is big into collecting artifacts and stuff like that. It was sort of a family thing...

[he hesitates for a while.]

Uh, no. Well, I mean, I don't. Della... she could still be out there, I guess. It'd be just like her to go off and forget about the time!

[he tacks a really awkward laugh onto the end, there.]

[ In the gentlest possible tone, which should probably sound at odds for a girl like her: ]

When was the last time you saw her?

It's probably been... ten years?

[He thinks? Is that how old the boys are now?]

I'm sorry. I know how bad that must hurt. But, she really could still be out there. Jason was missing for...gods, almost fourteen years?

There's always a chance.

Yeah, I know. She must have a good reason for being gone, and she's tough, too. I guess we've just got to wait.

[he's just. not great at waiting]

[ Will he take a consoling back pat? ]

[he might for a whole whopping half a second before leaning away awkwardly. he's not great at emotions? especially concerning dealing with this topic]
