Week 3

[Three people are dead in the span of one day. Two of which did absolutely nothing to deserve their gruesome deaths. Hopefully, no matter how silly this hope is, it's the last of the deaths in this hotel.

But maybe it's not all bad now? When people awake this Sunday, they will find that the door for 225 is now open, and for some reason leads to a bunch of cool new rooms to explore! Maybe this would be a great opportunity to bond over each other to make sure no one else dies again.

And no one else will die again, right?

[today, Marnie is holed up in the movie room with a ton of snacks and her notebook and pen. she's watching as many reels of The Twilight Zone as she can get her hands on, taking notes as she does, scratching out almost as many as she writes down.

she seems particularly interested in two episodes: Five Characters in Search of an Exit and A Nice Place to Visit.]

[After some time, Merlin will join her. He's interested in the show as well.]

Hmm...what do you make of this, Marnie? It's all very suspicious to me.

If he wants to play like we're in a Twilight Zone episode, the answer to everything has to be in here.

[frowns, looks at notes] None of my theories are all that great. Most of them rely on us already being dead.

Oh...oh my. Well that's no good.

[He thinks for a moment.]

Tell me: have you found an episode called Talky Tina?

-- Oh, I remember... I don't remember what it was called, but there was an episode...

[she walks over to the film reels and starts looking for a title to jump out at her.]

The guy in it was kinda like Mr. Northwest. A real jerk that was mean to little girls. Then the doll kills him. Most of the people who die in the show actually deserve it.

Th-th-the doll...kills him?

[The colors washes from his face.]

Yeah, she trips him going down the stairs.

[beat]

I mean, I'm sure she wouldn't kill you! You'll be nice to her. [RIGHT]

Well would you rather take care of her?

... I mean, I'm a little old for dolls, but if you're really that freaked out about her...

[He sighs.]

No, Noo.... if she's dangerous I don't want her near you.

She's a perfectly nice doll as long as you're not a jerk.

[Sometime during Five Characters in Search of an Exit, Oswald comes by and plops himself down into a seat next to Marnie.]

This is the one where they're all trapped in a cylinder, isn't it?

It's a donation box for Christmas gifts. They're all toys. [gestures with a pen] None of them know they're not real.

Oh? Really? I didn't actually watch this one all the way through yet, gee, that's a heck of a twist.

[He's not all that mad. Things get spoiled all the time.]

I'm trying to come up with ideas for this place! I think the answers are in these tapes.

Ideas....? Ohh, y'mean like figuring out what kind of situation we're in. That's really smart, Marnie.

[He likes it.]

[Since watching some episodes on Sunday, Dipper has been wanting to see a few more. With Marnie there, at least he might have someone to talk about them with.]

I do. You have to get inside the enemy's mind, right? And this show basically is his mind; there's gotta be a reason for it.

I wouldn't really call it his mind. He just narrates what's going on. So it's someone else's mind and he's just presenting what's going on in that particular scenario.

It's his whole identity-- I mean, it's not like he's actually Rod Serling. [STEADFASTLY REFUSING TO BELIEVE IT] He's some kind of... I don't know, an elder god who's really into black and white TV and real-life murder mysteries?

Well... Rod Serling has been dead since the 70's... It could be his ghost.

[gravely] Rod Serling would not do this to us.

.... you're putting way too much faith in an actor.

Nobody would do this to anyone! Even the most evil guy I've ever met would probably have just tried to kill us all already, not have these weird mind games!

I helped defeat a bad guy who would probably love this place.
