Week 6

[Another week another set of bodies, and now, the guests aren't the only ones dying in this hotel. At this point it seems as though something is attacking the nonguests of this hotel. What's attacking them, however, no one seems to know. But surely you can all find out before more people die, right?

No new floors open up this week, but people will find on Sunday that the locked door on the first floor is now unlocked. It's a good time as any to see what's behind it.

[Joshua spends his morning in the coffee shop. He should probably have gone to the kitchen to make something to eat, but he hasn't really felt like trying to make anything elaborate to eat lately. Probably not since Thalia's passing, honestly. While taking his daily staple of coffee, he's also tapping a pencil against a piece of paper, and anyone who snoops will see that it's a list of everyone who is still a part of the "game": himself, Tadashi, Virgil, Marnie, Sally, Cornelia, Chip, Ratigan, Oswald, and Donald. (With "John + Rod?" included at the bottom of said list) There's also a separate list of everyone else who has died, with peculiar notes and annotations next to them. (Example: Preston's name has a line through it and the note "not worth it")

Eventually, he makes his way to the music room, where he can be found rather focused on his playing here from where he sits in front of the piano. If you happen to have spent any time listening to the music on the bios in the dining room, then you might recognize that some of the tunes he's playing is an attempt to recreate them on piano, particularly the songs that were attached to the bios of those who died here. Despite playing rather well for someone who had to listen and memorize by ear, apparently he's not getting a certain result as at some point he suddenly slams his hands down on the keys mid-song and mutters something that sounds like a swear under his breath.

After a while, he gives up on playing their songs, and plays a piano version of his own song that was attached to his bio here.]

[she doesn't really drink coffee or anything, but, hey-- there's ten people left. if you see somebody hanging around by themselves, you go talk to them.]

Whatcha up to? [peers curiously]

Oh, not much. Just debating on who here would be the most lucrative to bring back from the dead is all.

When you say "lucrative," you mean...? [THIS IS WHY YOU TALK TO PEOPLE]

Who would have been the most beneficial to have back among the living, of course. As you can see, Northwest would be of no help to any of us here.

Duh. He's no use to anybody.

... Who do you see as the most beneficial? [beat] And why is this a Sophie's Choice situation to begin with? If we're bringing people back to life, wouldn't we bring all of them?

Are you saying that you actually want Preston back?

[Even Josh doesn't want Preston back, and he was friends with Ursula...]

I mean, I don't count Preston as people, but, yeah? How many other people are you planning on abandoning in Hell, and why isn't the answer "zero?"

Because even I don't like Preston?

[And that's saying a lot from Joshua here.]

Trying to find a new clue or something?

[Clue of what...who knows. But yeah, what do you have here, Joshua?]

Something like that. Have you found anything interesting here worth noting?

Actually, I did! You know that door on the first floor? It was open for a moment. I managed to check inside before it was locked again.

[He's not going to mention Rod's presence there, but yeah, maybe telling about that place is fine?]

There was another library inside, but when I turned on the light it turned all ruined and spooky. Didn't have time to take a good look.

Interesting... I wish I could have gotten a chance to take a look at it myself.

It may be a good idea to stay away, I'm not sure what kind of place that is. It doesn't sound like a good idea to mess with supernatural stuff.

[And Rod wouldn't be happy, anyway]

Perhaps, but sometimes you have to be willing to look into such things regardless of the risk it poses, if it can lead to one's freedom.

I guess you're right. [More power to you, Joshua] You know how to pick locks?

What kind of rule-breaking teenager would I be if I didn't know how to pick locks?

[... I mean except for the part where he's not actually much of a teenager anymore but that's beside the point.]

[Given his ear Ratigan doesn't have a hard time picking up the sound of Joshua playing piano. It sounds pretty close to what he heard in the bios before it cuts off.

Naturally he gives a polite applause for the performance.]

Excellent tunesmanship. After all this time, we still surprise one another.

Why thank you. I've put a lot of effort into recreating these songs as best as I can.

[And yet, Joshua still seems a tad dis-satisfied, if the slight frown he gives the piano keys here is any indication.]

And yet...you feel you're missing a bit of...precision?

Something like that: typically, when I play, I should be able to feel the music, not just hear it. However...

[And here, he taps a few of the keys as if trying to listen for something specific hidden in the notes.]

I'm not getting the same thing here like how I once did when playing at home.

[Ah Joshua, so bohemian. His head knocks back and forth as he listens.]

Hardly can one breathe behind these doors.

But if you're lacking the inspiration, one way to gain it back involves a little indulging in vice.

Is that right? And what kind of vice would you suggest?
