[Well... That sure did happen. After Swackhammer is done ranting about his terrible group of hostages, everyone is free to explore the surrounding area. But true to his word, it still seems to be heavily under construction, and any areas not on the map are surrounded by giant walls. Have fun with your two small areas of Moron Mountain (just be thankful you have clean underwear).

You don't seem to be entirely alone in this park either, as you will find one other employee if you search Swackhammer Avenue well enough.

Not exactly the most populated park, huh?

But hey, you can exit the park at least! Except the only thing they'll find is a seedy hotel in the dense fog. After searching, most people will come to realize that this is your living quarters, what with the bios that line the front wall. But hey at least you know you have food beyond hot dogs and smoothies!

[After milling about aimlessly for most of the week, Kubo finds himself with a surprising lack of things to do.

Well, maybe not wildly surprising given his only hobby has been taken away and he's never actually had. People. To interact with regularly before. So he isn't sure how you normally go about having fun.

In any case, he quickly falls back to one of the only things he knows how to do well-- folding paper. He's seated in the lobby today with his entire pad of paper from his room, ripping out one page at a time and making a whole army of little paper animals. He holds one up whenever anyone passes by, not really sure what to actually do with the things now that he's made them.]

If you want one I can pick one out for you. I can't actually use these for performances without my shamisen, so someone else might as well take them.

[no you don't even get to choose which animal it is he's just going to assign you all a fursona and you'll have to live with that knowledge

Afterwards he's at the smoothie stand, though he isn't wildly successful in making them edible given there's like six failed attempts next to him. The one he's trying currently isn't any good, either, judging by his sour expression.]

Oh, you play shamisen? Sweet.

[ She looks over all of the aminals. ]

You're just making them for fun?

I've been playing it since forever. They took it away when I got on the bus for some reason, though.

[He still thinks it's because they classify it as a weapon? Probably? The magic thing makes it dangerous he guesses. He's still kind of moping about that fact as he pokes a couple of the animals into neater lines.]

And... I guess I am? I don't really need to earn money here, so there isn't any point to use them for shows or anything.

Ugh, boooo. I play cello, but I didn't have it with me or anything.

I bet your shows are pretty sweet. What do you do with these guys?

Maybe they were afraid of us rebelling by way of forming a band.

[Although he's not sure that many of them play instruments given there's like. Five animals and a baby in the mix. But.]

They come to life when I play music. They're not great at doing what I tell them all the time, but they're pretty good at acting out stories by now.

We'd rock our way right out of Moron Mountain for sure.

[ But that gets her attention. ]

Whoah, that's radical! Does the shamisen do that, or could you do it with like... a kazoo, too?

I've never tried it without the shamisen before, actually. But my mom can use the same magic without even trying, so maybe it's not really about the instrument.

You're not used to them either? [She's a good girl who mostly just hydrates with water.]

Nope. [Said as he pushes another smoothie over to his line of failed attempts.] We never tried anything like this back home. Or even in the village.

Well, it's new to me too. [She tries to be encouraging.] My mom always said these weren't that healthy, and I never got a chance to get one as a treat.

They seem pretty healthy to me. I mean, it's fruit and all. Unless you add stuff to make it not so sour and then I guess I can see why it wouldn't be very healthy.

[She laughs a little.] Yeah, it seems the default assumption is that people want extra sugar.

[After some quick deliberation, he picks out a paper cat and holds it out.]

I would have made bigger ones but I didn't want to waste paper by using too many sheets on each of them.

[Coraline takes the paper cat very carefully, turning it around in her hands]

This is...this is quality work. I almost can't believe it's made only with paper.

[This is origami so good Coraline doesn't remember the last time she was so impressed by this kind of thing. Most likely she never had admired origami so much]

[He's more used to people being impressed with the magic that makes them move-- they often don't really notice the craft.]

I'm... not as good at it as my mom is, though. Not yet, at least. But she's had way longer to practice.

Yeah, she did. She taught me how to play the shamisen, too, and I got my magic from her.

...Actually, I guess she kind of taught me everything. [this boy has never been to school in his life]

[he's being honestly curious, both towering over Kubo, and peering down to get a closer look at those animals.]

It's origami. Just folding paper up to make shapes.

[He holds one up so he can get a better look at it.]

See? This one's a rat.

Oooooo, can you make a cow? I want a tiny cow.

[Otis sits his butt down in front of Kubo, waiting.]

Uhhh... sure! Those are pretty easy.

[To be fair he probably should've expected this. Either way it's fairly simple to make a mediocre cow, even if he just has to use the pen to give it spots. He holds it out but sort of hesitates when he remembers that cows don't. Have hands. To hold things with. It's probably fine but--]

...You kinda have to be careful with it.

Aw, lookit it! [He has mitten hands, it's fine. This is definitely very normal and not at all weird.] The Kobe cows used to make little paper things too, which I thought was cool up until I realized that them worshipping me as a Sun Cow meant they were gonna cook me up and serve me in a restaurant.

[That is the real plot of an episode of Back at the Barnyard. Just so you know.]

[Actually it's very not normal and kind of concerning but-- it's fine. This is fine.]

...Wow, uhhhhh... [HOW DOES ONE RESPOND TO SOMETHING LIKE THAT] ...why did they think you were the, um... Sun Cow...? Is that one of your deities? [Does he want to know if cows have religion.]

Oh, I got stung by a bee and it looked like I had a fifth teat on my udder.

[He points to said udder, 'cause what really needed to happen here is Otis drawing attention to the fact that a Very Masculine Voice is coming out of a cow with an udder.]
